On your current poll quote: Which influences you more, a yarn's appearance or fiber content? (How it feels is not up for discussion in this poll!)
how can we possibly vote if a touchy/feely option is not even considered LOL!! You know your knitters way too well!!

Gotta agree here - I always have to go with what I see first, since my eye gets there before my fingers do. But when I do like how a yarn looks, i have to touch. If i like how it feels, then I'll check fiber content. When it comes to plain yarn, I probably won't like how a synthetic looks in the first place - the colors are so different from colors in natural fibers. but the moment yarn gets novel - ahh - then my distaste for synthetics dissappears and a more open mind takes over.
Wicked of you to leave out touch. naughty clara.

Well, I think this poll fits me perfectly. Especially since I order most of my yarn on line. Unless I can get to my LYS and check it out I order without feeling so for me it's content then appearance. Only once have I not liked what I ordered...that was the Reynolds Lopi...too itchy.

I am originally attracted to the look. However, depending on what I am making, I will be influenced by the fiber content. If I don't like the fiber content, I will drive myself crazy trying to find the look with the fiber. I also let the yarn store personnel help me with my choices. I haven't yet had a problem that way.

Whatever it is, it must be soft. I suppose that is a fiber content issue, since I've never known an acrylic that I liked the feel of. Its just that there seems to be more to it than that. There's also the way its spun, which I consider both a look and a feel thing. The way a yarn is spun is certainly an important factor for me, but its not a pute looks thing.

I know, I know, it was pretty evil to leave out touch! But I knew that pretty much everybody would've voted "how it feels" if they had the choice (except, as Vicky pointed out, when we buy yarn online and can't touch it), and I was interested to learn about the secondary factors that influence us. And notice I didn't add "how it smells" as an option, although most of us are inclined to stick our noses into skeins before buying them too!
