I'm not receiving any response to this question in the Readers Corner area, so thought I'd try here:
I have the earlier publication of Folk Socks by Nancy Bush, but have been reading about the new, updated version. If I already have the first book, is there enough new material to warrant my buying the latest one? I love knitting socks and do have most of Nancy's books. Do any of you have BOTH editions, and if so, do I need to buy the newest one, too?

I think I have the newer version. I would say go to the bookstore, look through the newer release and see if there's anything different. It may just be a situation where they needed to reprint it.

Generally a book should have about 20% new information, plus update of old material where necessary, in order to be termed a "new' or "updated" edition. In reality sometimes they have less.I don't know if that's helpful or not, but it's a ballpark of how much new information we're talking about.

| Have not been around for a while so I saw this post and thought I would reply. I had the original book but lent it out and it never came back to me ;0( But I have gone out and purchased the newer one and in the acknowledgements Nancy Bush herself says, "Not much of the text has changed, some of the yarns have, as many yarns were discontinued since the first edition was printed". So, I would probably take the advice offered and if you can, go to a bookstore with the old copy and compare the two so you can decide if the newer one is worth parting with some $$$. Thank you all SO much, and Valerie for your comment! The only book store in my area is a Hastings, where I have seen few knitting books, and I usually already have them; however, I will try to stop there the next time I am in that town (our county seat where we do "business"). I live in the country and do NOT drive anywhere if I can avoid it.
Ha, if there were a LYS, I'd probably live there, but alas, there is not. And now that I have my Kindle, I download library books from my home computer and rarely even go there anymore. Who would have thought?
