I've been on hiatus for several years--family/work issues. I've gotten back into knitting big time. I've lost 47# so new sweaters are on the needles. I also have a new grand-daughter due in August so tiny items are on the needles, too.

In the last few years, I've gotten very involved in lampworking. I still work full-time so my days, as you can see, are very busy.

Hmmm If you ladies want to know where that weight went that you lost I can tell you. It took a trip downunder and it is sitting right here on my hips.

Ah Ha! and here is another one of those sweater/jumper words. You know what I mean? Words that are different in US or UK or Australia. We nearly need a dictionary. I have to remember to say yarn whenever I mean stuff to knit with and only use "wool" if it is really wool. But I did not know what was meant by the hash symbol #. At first I thought it might mean months but reading through the thread I realised it means pounds. And I vaguely remember seeing it somewhere else on this forum too. Oh and another thing, You must excuse the UK and Australian spellers., We spell colour, neighbour, labour etc. and we do not use z in words like realise, colonise, etc

Last summer I knew I HAD to lose weight, so I joined Nutrisystem. It's taken me nearly a year and I'm still 6 lbs. from goal but it's come off slowly and is easier to keep off.

At work I've managed to survive several big lay-offs and it's still stressful. My youngest son has had several run-ins with the law and now is in danger of losing my grandson. My grandson is 10 and lost his mother last Nov in a violent pedestrian/car crash.

Wish I could retire, but hubby lost his job 3 yrs ago with nothing else and I'm about 3 yrs to young.

It's been non-stop stress for about 5 years. Now, I want to de-stress and focus again on knitting (and my lampwork) Looking forward to discovering what everyone is up to.

Bummer! That is a real string of strife! Gees I hope things pick up for you. Jobs are hard to get and keep in the US at present. Here in Oz things are much better. They are actually screaming out for workers in Western Australia and importing them en masse. Can you and hubby get custody of your grandson? Stay in touch and your friends here can give you moral support. Although our chat is about knitting mostly, it creates a diversion from your worries and that is good for you.

Welcome back, Barbara. The goings-on in your son's and grandson's lives must be very hard on you all. I hope that knitting and KR are giving you some relief from your current worries. I frequently knit to audio books, and when I've got a good one I can stay in a stress-free world for hours at a time!

Take care,

Robinsteph
