I am knitting with two yarns a solid for a few rows as the border andthen a variegated yarn. My question is do I start with the solid. I think I do but want to make sure. Thanks, Joan |

I just finished a BSJ and am about three fourths the way through another one. Too much fun and as addicting as knitting socks!

I just finished my first BSJ - what a fun knit!! I can't wait to try other color combos. I've heard some people say they thought the pattern was confusing, but I thought it was very simple. I used Cascade superwash in a varigated colorway, and got some metal buttons with a Celtic knot design. I love it!

I printed these out and had them handy as I worked along. They were a big help to me. When knitting the BSJ for the first time, it helped me get my brain around what I was doing. As you can see by the photos, the BSJ looks a bit different from regular sweaters for quite a while. Then, like magic, it all comes together.
To me, the neat thing about BSJ is the striping. If you are a member of Ravelry, you can search and find tons of examples of BSJs that people have done—some lovely, some not so lovely…also can search Flickr for similar pictures if you don’t have access to Ravelry. Plan for the colors and you’ll be so very pleased.

Hi, Joanct. Baby Surprise is such a fun knit. The combinations are endless. I love to look at pictures of what others have done to help me sort out my ideas...if you are a member of Ravelry.com you can search there for Baby Surprise and scroll through bunches of pictures...some you'll like and some you won't. The great thing is, you'll see how different combinations work out before you try it.
If you are not a member of Ravelry, I would strongly suggest you consider it. It only takes about 4 days to get your "invitation" once you sign up. It's free and very helpful. It offers different things than Knitter's Review. I use both a lot. Ravelry for searches and such, and KR for advice and questions.
If you aren't a member of Ravelry, you can go to www.flickr.com and search there for pictures of "baby surprise jacket". That's what I did before I joined Ravelry.
