I am looking for a knitting machine that is mid-gauge, but don't know what type to get. I don't have much time to knit but want to make some garments, afghans, etc. I am only a teenager and need help on convincing my mom (who doesn't knit) to let me buy a knitting machine. She thinks that I can just knit during the summer. She doesn't understand how long it takes to make a big project.  Any ideas? |

Hi: My suggestion would be the Singer LK150 or the Brother KX350. Both of these are excellent machines. Keep you eye on local papers or craigs list or ebay as they often have used ones come up for sale. You should be able to find a good used machine in the $100 range. I sold my KX360 for $75 and it was in excellent shape. I have noticed some machines on ebay but some used machines were priced far too high. As with anything there is a learning curve with machine knitting and a lot of people get discouraged when they can't make the knitting machine work perfectly on the first try. A lot of time it is operator error. Take your time to make your decision and if you have any store that sells machines close to you, go and ask them for a demonstration.
