Just a quick note to apologize for the delay in adding new members to the ring. I let my job eat up too much of my time there for a while. I've just added several new members and am going to take a spin around the ring this morning and make sure things are working well.

I've you'd like to join up, we'd love to have you.

If you are a member of the ring and your site has been moved to the queue, there is either something wrong with your code (probably still pointing to Molly) or you haven't posted in a really long time. If you're having trouble with ring code, don't hesitate to email or PM me. I know the ring html emails that I send out through ringsurf to let people know their code is bad are impersonal, but they're the best tool I've got.

Oooh! A Pony! I'm going to name her Bill, wait, no, Skillet, wait, no, Freckles!, Wait, no . . .

Thanks Clara! And you're welcome. I really do like tending the ring and everyone is really wonderful most of the time.

Email address deleted. This has been a huge and entirely volunteer undertaking and I thank you, Lanea, for all your work to make this happen.

The pony is now on its way.

Hey--thanks for putting my email address on the web for robots to steal, Shruti. . . I am always willing to help, but that's not ok.

You petition to become a member by putting your info in at ringsurf, which you just did. And then I review your page and make sure your code is correct, and then I either tell you what to fix or let you in. If you want help, you need to ask me, not display my contact information on the web. I think I've made that pretty clear on KR and on the ring membership page.

You mention that you have tried to get help adding the button--and you got help, from several people who explained how to do it--I just looked at the thread. For whatever reason you didn't follow through, and that's ok, but please don't put this on me. This is the first time you've petitioned to join the ring since I took it over, and you filled out the form today. I know we have a time zone difference so the 28th is much further along for you than it is for me, but you need to be patient. I am not paid to tend the ring. I do it out of the kindness of my (shriveling, bitter) heart.

I have tried very hard to be helpful to everyone interested in joining the ring, and I've announced here in the thread that my computer got zapped in a storm, so I really feel like I'm keeping up my end of the (all volunteer) bargain. Sheesh. I need a coffee. And a nap. And a cookie. And a pony.

Is it way too late to join the ring? I'm not really turning into a quilting blog. Not yet anyway.

Sadly, no. My computer just committed hari kari, so I have to borrow my husband's, and, well, he's a geek too. I'll try to get through the ring queue over the holiday, but I won't kill myself over it.

Sorry everyone.

Hi Lanea,
Any update on getting memberships posted to the ring?

Just a little update--work and life are eating my head, so I'm a bit behind with ring membership requests. I hope to get through them all this weekend. So don't give up on me or the ring, folks.

I wish one of the rings I'm in would fix the broken links. I was cruising along, and suddenly - no link at all! That bugs me a lot! I've reported it, but that ring boss person doesn't care like Lanea does.

Thanks, Lanea!

Thanks for avoiding stealing bandwidth Urieth--you're setting a good example.

Do you use some sort of photo hosting for your blog? That's generally required. I use typepad, so photo hosting included in the service I pay for. Blogger and most of the other free blogging services require you to use something like photobucket to host your photos. So, you upload a photo to a place that stores them for you on the web, and then link to that photo within the code with a standard image link that points to a url for the photo, rather than to an image on your harddrive. Does that make sense?

I just registered to join the KR webring and was wondering exactly how one inserted the code into one's blog for the button (I know you don't want us linking directly to your image sources and sucking your bandwith). I'm having a heck of a time getting the code correct. I have a button image downloaded onto my desktop but I just can't seem to get the image on my blog.

I agree that there should be guidelines.
I'm with you on the knitting content, LOL, yep ,that's a given
Also that there should be regular posting...I say every 2 weeks (of course, I'm cool with whatever is decided!) unless one is out sick or something beyond our control, of course.
Yeah, the no nudity is a good thing....I don't need to see any naked knittin'!
Thanks so much for taking the Ring Reigns, Lanea!

This flush of new members (seriously--it's like the hot new thing, the ring--more new members in the last three days since, well, ever) has made me think about formally establishing some quidelines for the ring. I really don't feel I own it, since Molly started it and since I want it to reflect Clara's sensibilities on some level, even though we have our official "This is not Clara's doing disclaimer."

So what do you all think should be our requirements? We don't have any set in stone, and I think we should have some on the blog ring homepage. Tell me what you think about the following possible requirements.

Knitting content! (this is a gimme, as far as I'm concerned--it doesn't have to be soully about knitting, but there needs to be some)
Frequency of posts (once a month? once a week? once every two weeks?)
Does it have to be a blog, or will we welcome commercial sites owned by members?
Is there any sort of content we really object to? I personally don't want to click on sites full of nudity. I'm probably not alone in that. How do you all feel about other kinds of content? I'm not suggesting we turn into a Pollyanna ring, of course.

Any concerns or questions? See where I'm going?

Count me in too. Does anyone have a graphic designed for sidebars?

Just signed up and waiting for approval. The little logo is truncated for some reason. My method for doing this stuff is to copy what I did before that worked and change anything that deviates. Can't figure this one out.

Holy frijoles! Clara joined, and now everyone in the world wants to join the ring. Wheeeeeee.

Please forgive me if it takes me a day or two to get to your membership request, folks. Silly job gets in the way of my knitting fun, as usual, and apparently they'll stop paying me if I just play with knitting blogs at work. I'm sure you understand.

For Blogger users. Blogger now has a beta version, which makes adding page elements, and lists, etc sooooo easy. The first thing you need to do is first migrate into the beta version. After that, simply take the webring code, add an page element to your blogger page, I used an html element, and paste the KR webring code into it. Add a title for the page element and voila, the KR webring element is there.
