Posted - 03/05/2007 : 3:32:37 PM hi there, i ordered a bunch of wool roving from the felted ewe. the natural colors i ordered closely matched the colors on the website but the dyed colors didn't quite match - mostly they were much brighter "live" than on camera so to speak. i've read online about combining colors but i haven't been able to locate some kind of tutorial online. 1. can you combine rovings and if so how?? i assume you pull the rovings apart and somehow mush them together but how do you do that so that they don't felt together until you are ready to felt the finished combination you want? 2. can you mute a brighter roving by combining it with ... white? natural? or ??? thanks a bunch. I wrote to felted ewe to ask if i could actually order a swatch card of their colors so next time i can get the dyed colors i was really hoping for but for now, i'm hoping to combine the brighter colors to mute them somehow...

Posted - 03/13/2007 : 11:23:33 AM I heard back from Tina at the felted ewe - she is totally nice and helpful - she was away at a show as i suspected. anyway, i am ordering a color swatch of their 56 colors!! i really do like felted swatches...
and Rose i looked in the book you suggested, basically it described what colors to use to get a particular result which was helpful - basically i would have to learn how to do carding (?? is that the right expression?) just as you said in your reply above.
Anyway, Tina has a link to how to do carding (from the felted ewe site I think) and she said i could actually just use a dog or cat comb to comb out the rovings and thus blend them... i might try it for fun and see what i get... err... when i have some time

Posted - 03/05/2007 : 3:38:25 PM Check out the book "Color In Spinning" by Deb Menz - it'll answer all kinds of questions about this, both how to get the colors you want by combining others, and how to technically blend fibers.
