Please assist me to determine if the item I have purchased could be an antique skein winder or swift. The item is black wood with carved feet. It is collapsible. When unfolded it has 6 arms or sides which appear to form a swift. The piece has 6 feet but one would have to wind the yarn around the sides by hand. I see no means to rotate the piece.
Is it possible to insert a photo on your site? If so, the picture would be most helpful as I believe my description is lacking. Many thanks! Linda |

Linda, it is more usual here on KR to link to a photo on a hosting site (flickr, your blog, somewhere else) rather than to post a photo here.
Without a picture, it's hard to say what it is, though it could be a swift, or a laundry rack, or possibly something else. Swifts weren't necessarily meant to wind on to, but rather to wind OFF of, though some have handles or pegs to assist in winding on.
I hope that you link to photo - it sounds interesting.
