I knit myself a wide brimmed winter hat with a single strand of Cascade 220, on size 10.5 needles. It made a nice little hat, just a tiny bit soft in the brim. Well within wearable, just not as firm as I would like. Now I'd like to knit a fedora. Maybe 1 1/2" wide brim with a turn-up on one side. I've used Lamb's pride for felting and didn't like the halo of mohair, so, now I'm looking at Nature Spun.
Have you tried it and liked it? disliked it? it halos? it doesn't halo? One strand? 2 strands? worsted weight? sport weight? If I want a heather look, will 2 colors held together blend or houndstooth? In other words do I have a chance of making a fairly firm brimmed hat with it? |

Nature Spun: there probably isn't a better felting yarn. Don't sneeze or you'll miss it! I felted a piece that was completely merged after only six minutes in the washer!

I've felted it, it was quite some time ago now so I don't remmeber all the details, but I believe it felted quite a bit. I think I made a bag single strand that shrunk about 50%. It reminded me a lot of Patons wool in the shrinkage, but a different texture. I don't remember how fuzzy it was.
If you want stiff I would go double. I made a cloche out of a double strand and that thing is 1/4" thick and can totally stand on its own.
