Posted - 09/07/2009 : 1:20:36 PM I want to spin sock yarn on my Louet Julia. Do you find a fast flyer to help with spinning sock yarn. My fastest whorl is 1:19 and the fast flyer would make that spinning easier and, with the a faster whorl added - increase the speed it spins at the info says. Before I go spending the money I'd like to know if it's needed to spin the sock yarn. Thanks. Linda |

Posted - 09/08/2009 : 07:32:08 AM I have a Julia and have the fast flyer as well. The additional whorl that is part of the fast flyer set does add a 27:1 ratio. This isn't really neccessary to spin sock yarn, though, I've spun sock yarn on other of my wheels that have ratios in the 12:1 to 16:1 range very successfully. The higher ratio just adds more twist more quickly. If you draft quickly, that's great, but if you don't draft quickly it can become overtwisted fast. The fast flyer itself is designed more for lace-weight as it has fat-core bobbins.
Hope this helps-
