Posted - 02/08/2012 : 10:27:15 PM Last summer my sister introduced me to "White Collar". After prodding from several friends I 'discovered' "The Big Bang Theory" over the holidays.
So what other fun shows have I been missing out on ?! Please share your recommendations, I need some quality knitting time in front of the TV :)

Posted - 05/08/2012 : 8:51:18 PM Hi Minh - I'll toss in my favorites: Burn Notice (USA network, past seasons on netflix, current seasons stream on hulu with time delay). I have knitted through many hours of How I Met Your Mother, and Samantha Who? (both netflix). Both are really funny and you will recognize the characters. I also watch Castle, Bones, Modern Family, and the Middle on hulu. Did you catch Chuck? So good! Finally, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report are often laugh-out-loud funny.

Posted - 05/07/2012 : 08:27:51 AM Another Brit show to add: Hustle. Unfortunately only 4 seasons are available in the US, the rest are UK only. But it is BRILLIANT and if you loved Leverage, you'll love HUSTLE!

Posted - 04/05/2012 : 11:35:35 AM Hubby and I like "Lost Girl" on SyFy. It's in it's first season here in the USA, but second or third in Canada. I like the comedy "New Girl" starring Zooey Deschanel, on Fox, too. And for a while I watched "Smash" on NBC for the really good acting, singing and musical numbers, but it's on at the same time as "Lost Girl." Fortunately, whole episodes can be watched on the Internet.

Posted - 03/14/2012 : 10:56:53 AM Downtown Abbey. Just wish it was longer! :-D Can't stand that we have to wait until 2013 for the next installment! gaaah.
I don't watch alot of regular TV, but I'm really enjoying "Smash" on NBC. It's a behind-the-scenes drama about Broadway starring Deborah Messing, Christian Borle, Jack Davenport (dahyum is he good looking :-D ), Anjelica Huston and Katherine McPhee, and I am thoroughly entertained by it.
Also enjoyed The Walking Dead, but I haven't watched that in a while. May have to get back to it.

Posted - 03/10/2012 : 11:20:18 AM I am absolutely addicted to PBS' Masterpiece, DOWNTON ABBEY. I watched both seasons back-to-back and am now in limbo until the 3rd season begins. I love it. Netflix has season one on instant streaming, season two will probably be added soon. Can't remember if Hulu has it already. Watching that made me look up other Masterpiece selections I missed before retiremenbt, earning just enough to assemble a stash. I watched season one of THE FORSYTE SAGA, and liked it very much, even to order season two on Amazon. There are several more I am going to pursue when finished with that. (Minh, I notice the same pattern, lots of British shows. Maybe they are a tad slower paced, and more condusive to knitting???)

Posted - 02/14/2012 : 02:50:04 AM Oh, I love The Walking Dead, too. I also can't wait until April 1st, when the new seasons of Game of Thrones and The Killing start.

Posted - 02/13/2012 : 6:39:52 PM Second your recommendation of Nurse Jackie. Funny, sad, poignant and thoughtful. My favorite character is Mrs. Akalitus, the nurses' supervisor.
Akalitus: I know Michelle Obama. Father: Excuse Me? Akalitus: You heard me.
My guilty pleasure of late is AMC's The Walking Dead. Zombie apocalypse, but such good storylines. I look down at my knitting during the gruesome scenes. First new episode last night since November and I postponed watching Downton Abbey until tonight.

p.s. Thanks Minh for starting this great conversation. |

Posted - 02/13/2012 : 6:17:42 PM Downton Abbey, of course, even have my husband hooked now that there is no football.
I am a big fan of The Good Wife, The Mentalist and Person of Interest. And no, I don't work for CBS. LOL

Posted - 02/13/2012 : 08:52:31 AM How do.
Great topic, Minh! We have basic cable & we borrow the HBO shows from the Library. Recently I borrowed HUNG, the 1st 2 seasons: I knitted & stayed glued to the TV through all the DVDs. (My sweetie was away for 2 days so it was a guilty pleasure!) Everything about it was wonderful - the writing, the actors, the premise (yes, it is wacky), the scenes of down-on-her-luck Detroit, the music.
Any other fans?
SAVING GRACE & NURSE JACKIE are pretty interesting shows too - both feature excellent, awesome actresses w/ Holly Hunter & Edie Falco.

Posted - 02/12/2012 : 9:03:25 PM Thank you, thank you, thank you! My Netflix queue is long and I will be a busy stockinette knitter :)
Isn't it interesting that so many British shows were mentioned? I thought of stocking up on DVDs in the UK but did not think they would work on our DVD player because of the zones.

Posted - 02/12/2012 : 11:36:11 AM We've been watching The Borgias, Big Love, The Wire, and Boardwalk Empire on Netflix (disks, not streaming). Will also start watching "Lilyhammer" on Netflix streaming (The Sopranos meets Northern Exposure, starring Steven Van Zandt). And you have watched The Tudors, haven't you? Another great British series is State of Play (much better than the US movie) and House of Cards (also coming to Netflix streaming later this year, but the Brit version is terrific).

Posted - 02/12/2012 : 07:29:04 AM I caught Luther on-line since I don't get BBCAmerica on cable anymore. I loved it! Then I happened to be browsing recently and saw that there was a second season. I watched the four episodes and waited patiently for them to add more. Then I realized (after looking up the series on imdb) that the four episodes were the entire second season. I sure hope they make more Luther.

Posted - 02/11/2012 : 9:05:06 PM I've now watched the first three episodes of Luther. Who has been a character more menacing than Alice Morgan? And Lucient Burgess? Yowza, what a creep. |

Posted - 02/11/2012 : 8:55:55 PM OH! Yes to Sherlock! In fact, they talk about how they tried to make Luther as a smart, modern day SHerlock. Someone who sees things others don't b'c of his enormous intellect.
Patshere.. I hope you like Luther as much as I did.
