I'm Irene from Illinois. I learned to knit when, at the age of 10, my aunt took my cousin and me for knitting lessons at our LYS during the summer. We've both been knitting since, and that is more years than I will mention. Many, many sweaters and socks and scarves and other objects later, I'm still at it. I'm trying to improve my skills and try new techniques all of the time. I'm currently sock obsessed (or is it the small DPN's, the wonderful sock yarn out there, or the great patterns?). I think I will need to start a second drawer for my socks, since the first one is already packed full. Lots of colors and patterns to rotate socks!

I am currently blessed since, moving to a smallish town, that we have a superb LYS in town. Great owner, great people and fun open knitting times!

How do.

Irene, I love the idea of your 2nd sock drawer! How cool is that?! And how good that your town has a wonderful LYS. I know you are supporting it too.

Robinsteph, may I say how much I enjoy your posts? I admire your enthusiasm, love hearing of what you are thinking & knitting, appreciate how welcoming you are to our new Forum folks. What a cool way to think of socks as "they're small & you get 2 tries!" - excellent tho't.

Hi, Irene, welcome to KR. Your sock obsession sounds exciting. I've been reading the Yarn Harlot lately, and that's really ramped up my interest in socks. It's almost unbearable, cause I want to knit everything at once. I think socks are a great base on which to learn new skills and techniques. They're small, and you get two tries!
