Posted - 02/24/2013 : 05:02:44 AM I just finished Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals", about Lincoln's cabinet and his political sense. I love any book by Doris! Have you read her "Same Time Next Year" ? Its about her childhood in a Boston suburb and her passion for the Dodgers baseball team. It is adorable. I read the "Team of Rivals" to prepare for seeing the movie, which I haven't yet been able to do. (Being Caretaker for husband eats up time, even though I have some help) Anyway Just giving a shout out for Doris Kearns Goodwin!
Anybody else like her stuff?

Posted - 03/08/2013 : 08:22:12 AM I haven't read anything by her - not sure why. I find her fascinating and love it when she's on Meet the Press and other news shows. The movie is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Very interesting and Daniel Day Lewis became Lincoln.

Posted - 03/07/2013 : 9:41:06 PM I'm a fan too. I especially liked her writing about Mrs.Roosevelt. I did think that Lincoln was very good. Ms.Goodwin is often on public radio and is very interesting to hear.

Posted - 02/25/2013 : 1:05:25 PM I have not read the book, but did see the movie. It was really good. If you don't get to see it in a theater, the dvd should be out fairly soon. Some of the scenes in the movie were (visually) dark, and the dialogue was kind of hard to catch, and viewing the dvd at home would give one a chance to back up and catch what is missed on the first viewing.
Daniel Day-Lewis richly deserved the best actor Oscar. He is amazing.
I also read her childhood memoir and enjoyed it.
