Hi, I like spinning singles yarns and felting them (it's more than just fulling - fluffing up - the yarn. I'm getting the fibres to really stick together, so I'm using the term felting even though technically it isn't.) The felting stabilises the yarn, but how far? Does anybody have any long-term experience with that type of yarn?
For example, I think it should be less prone to pilling (if the fibres stick together there are no loose ends to rub off, are there?) But if I'm wrong I'd like to find out before doing all the work only to have a result that won't last...

I would think that it depends on how through a job you do felting, and the type of wool. Considering that when I full yarn I often get a certain amount of the yarn wanting to stick to the strand next to it in the skein, there will be a certain practical limit to how well you can felt it before you end up with a ring of felt as opposed to individually felted strands.
