This is one of my favorite things to do: If you were given $500 and told it must be spent on knitting, spinning, fiber, etc., what would you buy?

The problem with this is--my fanatsy translate into more credit card debt!
All the knitting software that I can find--so I get to play with my computer and obsess about knitting too. And, then the left over money would go to Colinette Wigwam or Engima or to handpainted soy silk.

Ah, that would make life easy, since my wheel fund is now likely to be put to my teeth for the dentist fun...
1. Spinning wheel 2. Needletrax or other similar software 3. All else would go to fiber
If allowed, and funds allowed for it as well, I'd buy some nice cedar storage for all my yarns and fibers.

Fricke drum carder
I guess there would only be enough money left after that to buy one of those deep fat fried hostess twinkees.
or some addi turbos

I think I would spend it on one of the Adrienne Vittadini pattern books and the EXACT yarn it calls for in the pattern. The last pattern I drooled over would have cost me near $300 to make because the yarn was a cashmere and sooooooo yummy. It may still happend one day. I also think I would contemplate a spinning wheel and tons of roving and of course lessons on how to do this. How about a complete set of addi turbos - every length - every size.

Well..... looks like my reply got eaten. <ggg> My $500 would be spent on a drum carder, more sock yarns, spinning fiber, and more dpns. Definitely all must haves... HG |

Can I use it to pay someone to do my day job so I can knit?
If not, perhaps kits from Alice Starmore and Norsk Strikkedesign. Or however many of Starmore's OOP books $500 will buy, starting with Aran Knitting.
Enough Noro Silk Garden or Kochoran to make a full-length duster coat.
But I still wouldn't have enough time to knit unless I were independently wealthy, rats!

It won't be as lengthy or humerous this time, I spent about a half hour writing it out before. UGH stupid thing that never remembers me even though I logged in an hour ago and said "REMEMBER ME!".
I would buy: + Filatura di Crosa Elena (16 balls in Ecru or Beige, for my *DREAM PROJECT* from Interweave Knits Spring 2003. One can dream right?) That would set me back like $115 (ouch) + Weekend Knitting ($19.96 from Knitpicks.com) + Two skeins Cascade Fixation in Hawaiian Splendor ($11.00 total from Knitpicks.com...and since I'd have spent over $30 I'd get free shipping) + Gigi pattern from Bonne Marie Chicknits Studio ($4.95) + 8 Skeins Cotton Fleece ($60, for said pattern above) + 4 skeins Lorna's Lace Shepard Sock - $40, two in Lakeview and two in Chino + A bag of GGH Capri from http://www.yarns-and.com for $70 in #5 or #18 for pattern #33 in Rebecca #25...it would actually make two tops.
With the remaining $179.09 I would pay taxes and shipping on everything as well as buying as many wooden circular and DPN's as I could because I have a serious love but only two: a #7 clover 16" circular and #10 brittany DPN's.
I would also donate some money to Critter Knitters because I don't have time to knit some blankets but would love to help out! That's fiber related right?
Ah, one can dream.
edited: because I can't spell. |

OHHHHHH I forgot all about the sweater in Norskstrikdesign that I WILL make some day. I have the book, now I just need to buy the yarn. Now, wouldn't it be wonderful if someone gave you $500 the day before the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival to blow at the festival! (or any other fiber fest!) I think that would be wonderful, but it could also cause purchasing paralysis - which is when you have the money to spend, but cannot seem to decide on what to buy.

I think for me it would be a spinning wheel. I used to spin flax as a teen but never owned a wheel. Now as I contemplate a nearing retirement, I think I could spend time wisely spinning.

I would buy lots and lots of Jacob roving & fleeces
a drum carder
a picker
and i would make an extension on the house for a new spinning room ..
WWWOOOOOOPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSS
you said $500 -- not $5,000

I would buy every size and length of addi turbos. I have a needle fetish.
Wow . . . in ANY other forum that last statement would be so scary.
Of course, the remaining money (if there is any left) would all go to yarn. I'd finally not be using acryllics! |

I would split it between two of my four daughters who knit -- one is on disability and the other knits for her children and charity. Funds are tight for both of them. I regularly send yarn from my stash to them and when I find good yarn bargains buy yarn and have it sent to them. I would keep enough to get a few more wooden needles for myself.
I live on a sailboat and need to limit my yarn stash.

| If I had the $500 I would travel East to take classes from Annie Modesitt to learn how to make her beautiful hats. I have just ordered her book Knitting Millinery, but I know I will need help. |

| If I were given $500. and told to spend it on fiber-related items, I would have to buy as much Koigu and Lorna's Laces yarn and pattens as I could get for the money. These two fibers are wonderfully soft and feel good to knit. |
