Here's another cute list I found and wanted to share. -Becky
The Wool Bin's Top Ten Reasons to Buy Yarn
- 10 - It's not illegal, immoral or fattening. It calms the nerves and gratifies the soul.
- 9 - I must buy it before my husband retires and goes with me on shopping trips.
- 8 - When the big earthquake comes, all the yarn stores will be swallowed into the ground and never seen again.
- 7 - I need the weight in the trunk of my car for traction on slippery roads.
- 6 - It keeps without refrigeration. You never have to cook it, feed, change, walk it or wipe its nose.
- 5 - I'm participating in a contest — she who dies with the most yarn wins.
- 4 - It's on sale.
- 3 - It’s less expensive and more fun than psychotherapy.
- 2 - It helps keep the economy going.
- 1 - It insulates the closet where it's kept.

How about this one (I just made it up): 10 It matches the decor in my livingroom. 9 My cat needs more to jump at while I'm winding it so she won't get fat. 8 It keeps me from being addicted to worse things. 7 I want the sheep of the world to feel useful. 6 The shelves at the LYS look overstuffed. 5 It's my #1 reason for making money. 4 I don't want any of my needles to feel cold and naked, without anything on them. 3 If I don't buy it, someone else will. 2 It's pretty. 1 It's there.

| Is it really cheaper than psychotherapy? I don't think so. Another reason--It helps fill the empty nest when the chickies go off to college. |

oy!oy! Rubberstampers used to ask the same question...is it really cheaper???
I do agree about filling the empty nest! My kids were amazed that we bought a 5 BR house for just the two of us...and only have ONE guest room. Of the others, one is filled with books and the computer, one's filled with dh's hobbies, and the last is my hideaway. I was amazed to find out how little stash I really have, now that it's all out in the open! I'm glad Zeldabeast printed this list so I can show DH why I need to buy more!!!

| # 9 is so true. My husband retired a year and half ago and he can't understand why my VISA bill is so low now. And I dread that someday he goes into a closet and sees my stash which is getting lower. |

TOP TEN REASONS TO BUY YARN??? I HAVE ONE VERY GOOD REASON...IT MAKES ME HAPPY.
OH, I THOUGHT OF ANOTHER REASON, A GIRL SCOUT REASON, "BE PREPARED". YOU DO NOT ALWAYS KNOW WHAT YARN YOU WILL NEED AND YOU DO NOT ALWAYS WANT TO WAIT TO GO TO A YARN STORE OR WAIT FOR AN EBAY AUCTION SHIPMENT TO ARRIVE. |

I am right there with Phlame. When I see it I NEED it and I never contemplate buying.. I just buy. I have never had one day of buyers remorse :)

My reasons:
It's on sale, and if I don't buy it now I may not have the chance to (I call this "The Elann Justification")
I love it, and it will be perfect for a project I have in mind.
I've had a crummy day/week/month.
I want to make a gift for someone out of it (and don't forget, YOU are a "someone" too).
It is a new yarn I want to try out.
The sweater or shawl I make with it is the perfect thing to go with that dress I have that none of my other sweaters and shawls go with.
I'm supporting small businesspeople! (I buy mostly from the smaller businesses - like Carodan Farm - that have an online presence).
If I'm knitting, I'm happy. If I'm happy, I work better. And buying yarn makes me happy too.
And finally: "what if they stop making it???" (not ALL yarn, I mean the specific yarn I'm considering, or the color I'm considering) |

Its just too much fun to play with yarn not to buy it. I just bought some yarn to make a scarf for a co-worker and it looks so pretty and its so soft I want to start making it here at work.
I love yarn, that is all the reason I need. I have no choice at the moment but to keep my stash small (lack of room, lack of funds, curious dog) but trust me ladies, like shoes pretty shoes, I am so in love with yarn!!! |

Hey WendyB - I like your top ten! Especially the one about exercising the cat so she won't get fat. Half of the time my kitty, Zelda, is sleeping and acting as if she doesn't know the yarn's there. Then suddenly, POUNCE! I have to keep a watchful eye on her.
