I've just learned to my horror that my fave acrylic/nylon blend for kids hats is discontinued. It's Patons Look at Me and in Canada it's sold at Michael's, Walmart and Lewiscraft and some lys. I'm sad because it wears and washes well, it's soft and comes (came) in a range of bright fun colours and variegates. I've been scooping up what I can but the bright colours are long gone - I don't usually shop at the above stores. And when I did make my rare appearance at those stores yesterday, that's when I found out. So I just bought what I could and ordered some more online to hoard!
And Sirdar discontinued all its bright colour in Snuggly DK. Am I the only person on the face of the planet that doesn't want to knit pastel baby clothes??
Does anyone know of any other synthethic brands that are fun and bright and wear well? |

That's awful. I hate when things like that happen to me. It hasn't happened with yarn but I'm sure it will.

Amen to that! Or even worse, when they stop making your favorite pair of jeans!

I'm sorry about your yarn.
My favorite lipstick was discontinued, and I was very upset.

I still haven't gotten over Revlon discontinuing the perfume I loved wearing in HS! (And I am so old, I no longer have kids in HS!)

Oh don't get ML going about the lipstick thing. It kills her. I take her advice and buy several tubes of my favorites and keep them in the fridge. A lipstick brush is a must, but man I hate it when good stuff gets discontinued.

Amanda is TOO RIGHT, it drives me mad when they discontinue my fav lipstick! I'm against more government intervention in our lives, but there ought to be a law against that type of activity. I know change is a reality of life and I accept this in all areas EXCEPT when it comes to lipstick, jeans, perfume or yarn I have grown to depend upon.
Sigh. Okay. I feel better now.

The good part about lipstick and most yarns is that you can stash them forever, they have a shelf life of decades. At least that's my excuse.
Knitty - I'm sorry I can't offer any good suggestions for substitutes. I've heard good things about Encore which is an acrylic/wool blend and comes in a wide range of colors. If you can bear the cost, Dale Baby Ull is a wonderful superwash sportweight which is 100% wool, machine washable and comes in the BEST colors. I use it for Norwegian sweaters when I find it at good prices.

Knitty - I like Red Heart Kids for a bright acrylic...comes in some great bright colors, solids as well as variegated, is soft enough to suit my taste, and seems to wear well. Also, not too expensive and readily available at Walmart, etc. I've made several baby blankets out of it as well as a couple sweaters for my kids when they were toddlers and they all seem to be holding up great! I completely understand how you feel. my FAVORITE yarn was called New Age - it was a synthetic yarn but so soft and yummy and was just discontinued. I was so upset because i was planning on making a baby blanket for my niece in it and now - i've got to find an alternative. so sad!!!!

| Be sure to check Ebay for your discontinued yarns. I have seen a lot of yarn for sale on there. |

| I decided to email Patons and tell them how disaapointed I am that they're discontinuing such a great line of yarns and asked what it's being replaced with. Let you know if I get an answer! |
