HI,
So I'd been looking at learning to needlefelt for a while now . . . and recently ordered some of the Starter Kits from Fiber Trends for my business, Inspirations Yarn. Well, the kits arrived today and of course I just had to lay claim to one and try it!
I decided against doing the coaster from the instructions in the kit as I don't have much use for a coaster . . . but instead pulled some things from my stash (being a spinner there is already a lot of fiber around) and made a little felt mouse for the kitties.
It didn't take all that long, was definately faster than the knit/felted toy I made them a while back) and its a whole lot cuter. Now I'm thinking of including the fiber & directions for making these with the starter kits since they don't actually have fiber in them . . .
I'm also thinking of all the other felt projects it would be fun to do . . . like bunnies for Easter for our neices, adding decorations to bags and all sorts of other things . . .
I almost wish I didn't enjoy this project since the absolute last thing I need is another fiber habit!
I've posted a pic of the mousie on my blog if you'd like to see him . . . link below.

Okay, couldn't resist . . .
first mousie said he was lonely and the kitties aren't exactly fond of sharing so now there are two mousies!
One white, one Dark grey/brown - one for each kitty.
I'm tempted to leave one in the middle of the floor w/o telling DH about them and see if he thinks its real . . .
What I think I'll do with the kits is offer them with a choice between the fiber for the coasters from the Fiber Trends directions and the mousie directions and fiber, what do you think?

LOL!
Wendy, I'll have the page up for the kits a little later tonight . . . they usually retail for $7.95 which is what I plan to carry them for, the difference is that I'll be including some fiber . . .
by the way, this is the first mousie

Ok just how difficult is needle felting - I've always wanted to try it but somewhere I read that you have to be careful. Jenny WA State |

HI Jenny,
Not difficult at all! That's part of the problem!
The mouse pictured above is my first ever needle felting project, and I made him up without directions as I did it.
I've just spend the last 2 hours working on Easter bunnies with my 12 year old neighbor. We have bodies done and have been working on heads. This is her first time doing this also and counting the 2nd mouse I made last night (2 cats=2 mice) this is my 3rd project.
The only thing you have to be a bit careful of is that the needles are very, very sharp. IE Don't point them at your fingers! I, therefore, wouldn't suggest trying it with young children, but even kids can learn to do this.
The other bonus is that the starter kits are cheap so its a good "gateway drug" when it comes to fiber stuff . . .

You've inspired me to get going and actually do it! Now I just have to fit it inbetween all the projects I have started. Sound familiar? LOL Jenny WA state |

Hi Jenny,
LOL! Does it ever! My Wip pile is too big to explain and as soon as I finish the shawl I'm doing now (Leaf Lace) for my website . . . I'll be finishing off the baby gift I meant to give a month ago, knitting up the other one that should have been mailed 3 weeks ago and then actually making a few things for my own little one who is now just over 14 weeks away from arriving!
Good thing I'm having a summer baby and not a winter one or the poor kid might freeze!

last fall I got bitten by the needlefelt bug I made a bunch of snowmen. ( thaddeaus disemboweled the first one) then I helped Carole make a dragon, from that black sheep kit.... ( I gave him my personality every tells me) then I showed my spin group to needle felt and one of the people there made a to die for snowman shepherd with three tiny sheep.... and an alpaca! I am about to make a needlefelt repair to one pair of my clogs it is a lot of fun to work with fiber this way... and almost magical how it actually holds together vi who really loves Matheme's mouse
none of this will matter in 100 years.......except I will finally be at my goal weight...vi http://notashyviolet.blogspot.com/ |
