Hi there!
I am always working on a leprosy bandage, as I keep one in my purse. Yes, there is still a great need for them. One of my readers wrote this morning to tell me there was a discussion on here somewhere stating they had enough and to not make more. This applies only to RISING STAR OUTREACH, as they are one small charity who deliver bandages to 6 leper colonies in India.

LDS Humanitarian collects them yearwide and they need them by the thousands. I can't find the post where they were saying they are not needed anymore, but please let them know, the bandages are needed still. :)

I am also doing newborn booties for the newborn kits, and knitting loomed hats for preemies for a hospital in Vegas, UMC. :)

Keeps me busy!!

HUGS!
Bev

Thanks Bev. I have several done and one bandage on needles. I too read the posting and stopped making them. I usually just threw them in my purse...easy to knit when out and about...ie standing in line at the store etc. How do I get into touch w/ the LDS Humanitarian? Is there a website that you know of or should I just google?

Here's an other good idea to help those with Hanson's disease.(the more modern term for leporsy)

one of the medication that is most effective, is a sort of orphan drug. its main use it for Hanson's, and no other diseases. but since very few 1st world nations have a problem with Hansons disease, and because the drug is expensive to manufactor, companies have shied away form making it.

BUT--if you apply the drug (topically) instead of taking it (internally) it has an interesting side effect--it slows the growth of hair (its the opposite of Rogain(mynoxidil, which (topically) helps restore hair, but (internally) regulates blood pressure).

So treat your self to those new body lotions that promise to leave your legs (or chins!) smooth, and to reduce hair growth--

you'll shave your legs less (or wax your chin less)This is a realy non-important(medially), but a commercially successful use of the drug.

AND because there is a good commercial market (in the 1st world), the drug will be manufactored, and will be available for internal use in the 3rd world (the primary cost being paid by the cosmetic use.)

So look good, as you do good!
(several companies make 'skin smoothing/hair/shaving reducing cream/lotions..Avon, Suave, Biori (for the face), Jergens, etc.. )

Bev,

Thanks so much! I had missed the discussion saying that there was no more need -- just as well! I have quite a pile ready to send off, both LDS-style, and Lutheran-style. I always keep them with me.

And I've got my husband using the shave-less lotion as aftershave!
