Has anyone ever thought of starting a business that would specialize in seaming other's projects? I think that it would be a fabulous idea for an enterprising individual.

I HATE finishing a project. And I am sure that at one time or another, others have felt this way too. I find such serenity in knitting that I could knit forever. However, I hate the finishing.. the seaming, etc.

"You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die. A spider's life can't help being something of a mess, with all this trapping and eating flies. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that."

Sure, Dorene - bring it on over! I actually like seaming - it's so much faster than the actual knitting, and when you're done YOU WEAR IT!

Some knitting shops offer this service, for a price. If your local shop doesn't, you might consider discussing it with the owner to see if they'd be interested!

My local shop charges $30 for the service.

My Mum used a service back in the '50s where you took the wool to them, they machine knitted the bands, you then knitted the body and sleeves then returned it to them for a machine knitted rib on the neck and seaming.

I was at an upscale yarn store the other day in Santa Monica, California, I only go there once in a while just to look around most of their yarns are far too expensive for me. I looked at their sale bin and saw some beautiful silk ribbon yarn but on sale it was $40 a small ball. But they had a set of needles I needed and it was a reasonable price.

There was a lady in there knitting little squares and I asked her what she was making and she told me pockets and she was in a hurry because she's turning it in. I said turning it in? Where? Why? To which she answered oh I hate sewing, I only like knitting. I asked her how much they charge and she was elusive but I'm thinking about going in there and asking them just out of curiosity. I'm sure it must be over $50 dollars or maybe even more than that.

I hate finishing some projects too but I'm thinking that the job they do may not be to my liking and it probably costs a lot.

Happy Knitting

One time a lady brought a sweater to me to finish. Her mother had started it and passed away before it was finished. I have no idea how she got my name as she didn't live in the small town I live in. I really didn't want to but I did it. That was hard, trying to figure out where she left off, match her guage, etc. I even sewed it together for her! ~~~~ Jamye

I think there was a thread about finishing prices sometime last year, but generally you won't find many finishers who charge less than $100, and some higher end stores charge $200, or close to it.
