A Panta is a wide Brazilian headband that is like a mix between a headband & a hat . A lady made one at Craftster & the original Brazilian is translated on this link at page 2 as well as another page there . If you look throught the thread several members have made a Panta using the translated patttern . They have posted pictures of their finished Pantas. It is such a nice piece of head wear . http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=51351.0

Great find Christina. I have been looking for a hat pattern, but I think I'll make this instead.

This is the cutest thing! I got through a few pages of caftster posts and there are apparently 2 versions translated by 2 different people. Is that the "pattern" or did I miss the original version? I want to start one for my middle daughter who loves hats and anything I knit for her!

The first one posted is the literal translation of the original pattern. Another girl made up a pattern based on the picture, and it makes a lot more sense than the translated version. I think most of the people who made it, used the second version of the pattern, all with great results.

I love the Panta!! I have a ball of LB Wool-Ease leftover from a poncho I recently finished that would look great as a panta. I think I may cast on as soon as I get my little one off to preschool...oh my, I'm never going to get my Christmas presents done!!

There is also a pattern for the exact same thing in Drops 86.

I took a day off from work the other day and made the Panta while I sat and watched old Laurence Olivier films. It looks great! And it's the first project I've made for myself, as everything else I've done has been gifted. I'm not big on hats, but I love winter headbands.

I like this a lot too. There seems to be a lot of difference in opinion about the needles and gauge on crafster--I guess there are several ways to do it. Anna...what size needles did you use and what yarn?

Ha! Anna I did the same thing, except I was watching the Phantom of the Opera. I made mine with Noro Silk Garden, and size 6 needles. Knowing that it will stretch with use, I made it snug.

I just used some acrylic that was in my stash, just to see how it would knit up. I used size 5 needles. I plan on making another one in wool. When the pattern calls to knit until "llama," I knit a little less than "llama" because I was afraid it would be too big. It was a good call on my part because it fit just right. Good luck!

I made one too, in acrylic. Where the pattern says to knit to llama, I did it with the knitting slightly stretched, the way I would like it when I wore it and it worked out fine. I love the way so many knitters said it was too long or too short when the directions said to start by measuring your head and knitting it to those measurements. Isn't it strange how some patterns just won't knit to your measurements. And of course it is the pattern's fault. LOL

After seeing this link, I just had to make one. I finished my panta yesterday. I have to say that this pattern gives a great result with minimal effort. And everyone looked fabulous in the pictures on Craftser.org
I give the panta pattern an A+ in the quick, universally flattering gift item category.
You can see mine in my blog entry here: http://kungfuknitting.blogspot.com/2005/10/berroco-foliage-panta.html
Cheers,
