I have a friend who loves Koigu, but doesn't knit or crochet. I know she loves lace & I would really like to make her a small scarf with a skein of Koigu. Could anyone recommend a simple pattern for 1 skein? I would like to make it as a Christmas gift & would need something "mindless".Is there such a thing as "mindless" with lace? I have a bunch of presents going right now, so any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, we live in AZ, so I thought lace would be a better choice with merino wool.

Feather and Fan pattern, or Ostrich Plumes. You can find versions of this in simple shawls, square or rectangles are easy. Use stitch markers between each repeat. Yes it is pretty mindless, mostly knit or purl and the fourth row is patterned only. If you want to knit lace just use larger needles than the yarn would call for if it was regular stockinette stitch. Like fingering yarn on size 8 instead of 5's.
I vote for Feather and Fan also. You can find it by googling. It is a 4 row repeat but only 1 row of the 4 is a pattern row. The others are knit or purl.
Another thing you might consider is seeing if your library has a copy of the book, Lavish Lace. There are quite a few simple lace scarf patterns in there.
Interweave has a poncho made using the ostrich plume pattern. http://www.interweave.com/knit/default.asp Download the Poncho Loco PDF. You might have to adapt a little for your amount of yarn. And you could make a wrap by not sewing it together.
