Hubby is taking me away for the weekend. We will be stopping in Syracuse on a Friday night then continuing up to Old Forge on Saturday.

Any suggestions for shops in that area? I plan to go to the Old Forge Hardware to check out their new yarn section (and hubby will be happy with the rest of the hardware...)

I'd like to know this, too, because I sometimes travel in this area. You can enter "yarn shops near Syracuse" in Google Local, but I don't know a thing about those shops. There's also Woolhaven Yarn & Fiber Shop in Remsen, which sounds interesting.

Kim - if you have time to take a slight detour to Syracuse -

might I suggest 'Elegant Needles' in Skaneatles - they are less then a block off Route 20 as you go through Skaneatles.

lemmee put it this way - if the shop were a web-page-Bess would block it for "too tempting not to be sinful"

That's right - Yarn Harlot will be at the local bookstore in Skaneatles this weekend. I won't be, as I am going to be in Maryland this weekend.

Mo, I've been to the Adirondack Museum twice, but I don't remember yarn being there, yet it was mentioned as a yarn shop by Google Local. That's quite a list. I'm printing it out and putting it in the glove compartment.

It would be nice to see the Yarn Harlot in Skaneateles, seeing that I'm a Serious Hooker (right now) at KR.

gasp! Not everything has to be yarn related! :-) It is a fun place, exhibits change but they tend to have demonstrations and events, some are fiber-related. The area is beautiful.
Be sure to stop in Inlet, lots to see there too. As if you have all the time in the world to do all these things!

Mo, I know not everything is yarn, but when you enter "yarn shops near Old Forge, New York" in Google Local, The Adirondack Museum comes up. I was just curious. By the way, a new Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks is being built in Tupper Lake.

I love it in that whole area! I've shopped at Mountain Stitchery and Old Forge Hardware, as well as regularly at the cute little Indigo Yarns near Washington Mills/New Hartford. My bf in college (St Lawrence Univ) was from Tupper Lake - exactly where I learned to knit. So relaxing up in that area.

My mode of transportation the last couple yrs to Old Forge:

Have a great trip!

I just love Doug's and the town! Never been to the yarn shop. (wasn't knitting when I was there last.) My friend has been taking and enjoying knitting lessons from Northwind shop.

If anyone visits Skaneatles during the weekends Thansgiving to Christmas - you might see my identical twin cousin strolling the streets singing Christmas Carols.
