Hi,

I have 2 balls of DK, recommended needles 4mm at 131meters each. I'd like to double it (so that would be 131 meters) - would that be enough for chunky mittens?

Yes. Check out Kate Gilbert's 'Gifted' pattern. It uses about 50-60 yards a mitten if I remember correctly.

I've had wonderful luck getting gauge by adding in a strand of mohair - if the doubled DK isn't heavy enough, some mohair may be just enough to fill in the holes. And I second the Gifted Mittens - fast and easy!
