What about wool-cotton blends? The only one I have tried is Green Mountain Spinnery's Cotton Comfort (which is a misleading name, since it has more wool than cotton). I made socks; it was pleasant to knit and the socks feel really good on my feet. However, I wonder what it would be like in a sweater - warm, cool, or what?
