I got some good news in my email today. Here's a quote from Busy Hands Yarn:
quote: Now, for all of you who have been mourning the loss of Mission Falls 1824 Cotton and Wool, some great news...
Another yarn manufacturer has licensed the “Mission Falls” name along with the brands “1824 Cotton” and “1824 Wool” and will be supplying us with all the wonderful products that you’ve enjoyed from Mission Falls --- including books and buttons.
Yes, you read it correctly the Mission Falls 1824 Cotton is back!!
By the end of January the full line of 1824 Cotton, 1824 Wool and Mission Falls books – along with some new Mags Kandis designs.
ALSO – MORE GREAT NEWS!!!
Mags Kandis will continue to add her unique design style to the Mission Falls line.
Coming mid-January is a “mini-collection” of Mission Falls designs in
1824 Cotton for Spring and a full design collection showcasing 1824 Wool is slated for Fall 2006.

Hmmm... my only concern (and I hope it's unfounded) is that they say they licensed the NAME - will the yarn be the same?

Are the colors going to be the same?
the colors and the quality are what's important to me more than the name. |

Any way you could ask WHO bought the name? Or rather, what yarn company will be distributing it? That way I can track down the right yarn rep...

The e-mail she got was from Busy Hands Yarn - maybe that's a way you could search, Ewe?

I had the same concern. I hope they don't change anything. I love those colors. I guess it's just wait and see!

Busy Hands is a shop, not a distributer (no coffee, cant spell yet, yikes!) I'll ask around, but cold-calling other shops looking for yarn rep names doen't really work well, each region will have a differant yarn rep, and each yarn rep carries differant yarns, and no two reps will have the same lines.

I emailed Jen at Busy Hands last night and received this: ---------------------------------------------
Hi Monika,
Mission Falls will continue to be spun by the same mill and the licensing agreement states that the same product quality must be maintained.
Thanks,
Jen

I've always wanted to try this wool, never did and was sorry I waited too long. Now at least I can buy some and see what all the fuss is about!

I got two bags on sale (the 1824 wool) at a yarn shop in KC about a month ago and have used it to make a Ribby Cardi. It was great to knit with. Very springy. Great stitch definition. Not especially "snuggle soft" like a non-superwash merino might be, but soft enough that I don't think I'll have a problem with "next to the skin" wear. The colors are great, too.
Because of the price for the yardage I was never really tempted to buy it, and, as a result, never even picked it up. What a mistake!!!

LOL! Actually I got the nickname Mokey in high school. This creepy guy had a crush on me, and since I had red hair and wrote poetry he took to calling me Mokey after the Fraggles character. It stuck with my high school friends.

I want to make a wrap in the pattern book "Spirit" and am thrilled to hear now I can do it with the intended yarn. Now I just need to figure out how to buy the book without getting on a mailing list and getting all kinds of catalogs.
