Well, now that I've made it through my first full month of blogging and received some wonderful comments, here's my question:
How do you handle your comments? Do you respond to them personally? Do you address them in your next post? Do you smile and appreciate them and move on?
Unfortunately for me, my software doesn't store email addresses, just URL's, so I don't get comments emailed to me. But I'm wondering what y'all are doing!
Thanks, Monica

I don't get the e-mail addresses either. I usually just smile and move on, but I always look at the commenter's blog and generally comment there if I see something interesting.

I don't get email addresses either. I respond to most questions in the comments. But if the Q&A might be interesting to a wider audience, I'll answer in a blog post.

I typically respond to each of my commenters via email. I figure that if they're nice enough to post, then I can do the courtesy of letting them know I got their comments. Caveat: My blog program sends the comments to me directly, and I can just hit "reply" to answer.
I actually get a bit peeved when I make the effort of visiting other people's blogs and commenting (more than just a "nice scarf!" comment) and then my comments aren't acknowledged. If I visited frequently and commented a few times and didn't get any response from the blogger, I'd likely quit leaving comments.
Just my $.02.

I reply in the comments - figure that's where people commented and so they are likely to come back right there. Also, other people with the same comments get to see it.
My 2¢.

Thanks for your perspectives. Sounds like it's as varied as bloggers are. :) Knit and Purl Grrl, that's an interesting point. I guess it also really depends on what the comment is.

Alas, I do not have this problem as my blog is on friendster which makes it impossible for even members to leave comments--for some annoying reason. I am too lazy to move my blog though. I do love going to other people's blogs and sometimes I leave comments. I more often leave comments on forums though. So, by the way mygomi--I think your blog is great! :)

Thank you, Tejer!
Hmm, I definitely have to come up with a plan for comments. I don't want anyone to feel ignored, but I also know I won't have time to hunt down people's email addresses!

Monica, I have always replied to comments in the comments, but like bogiebogie, if it's more universal, I answer in the next comment. Blog reading is a lot of fun and leaving comments on other blogs keeps my world alive. Very enjoyable. You have a great blog and so much energy! Congrats on your WIP finishing.
PS. I just tried to leave a comment on your wisdom tooth post but it wouldn't take. I had all the required fields, too. Maybe it was an older post and didn't feel like waking up.. heehee

I don't mind a bit. But the tweaking still didn't let me comment. I will try again a bit later. Maybe I will check cookies now. hehe
This is what I wanted to say:
The scarf (Catherine Rose) is gorgeous and the colorway .. Wow!
A like your Turkey Trot photos very much, too!

I generally comment on the comments I get in the comments section (woah...trippy), because that's where the conversation is happening.

It depends on the comment. If it's just "Nice, looks great" or something, I'm glad somebody takes the time to comment, but I don't see much point in replying to that. If it's a question, I always try to anser by mail or in the next post. Sometimes I comment on the comments, but I'm not sure everyone goes back to read comments once they left one, and if I think they really want an answer or reply, I feel safter sending an e-mail.
I guess I'm a bit inconsistent.

I don't generally email people, because some people get tons of email and I figured they visited me on the blog, so I should comment there. If it's a new person, and they leave a web address, I pop over to their blog and say thanks for visiting my blog. If they ask a question, I answer it in my comments and thank them there for visiting my blog.
