Dear All,
Last year my fiber demon was out of control. I would purchase yarn at my LYS just because I liked the way in which it looked, felted, or smelled—yes, smelled. Often, I would purchase either a single ball to see if I liked the yarn, or purchase enough yarn to knit a scarf, mittens, or some other small project, before I committed to knitting a sweater. Many times, I would abandon the yarn. In addition to amassing several 10-ball bags of yarn (did I mention I was an Ebay addict?), I had begun to acquire various odd balls of yarn. Instead of my stash inspiring me, it overwhelmed me.
In December of 2004, I decided to make a change. In January of 2005, I went on a yarn-buying hiatus. I de-stash as needed. (It may sound silly, but it’s not really a bargain if the yarn’s color doesn’t really compliment the skin tones of the person for whom the garment is knitted.) As a result, I think I have become more disciplined and strategic in my yarn selection and usage
It is December once again, I am reflecting and planning. I have yet to determine what will be my next knitting challenge, although I think it might have something to do with finishing…
What are your knitting resolutions?

More organization!
I'd like to get everything more organized-yarn together by projects, put where I can get to it easily (no more 'now where did that single ball of BSA bulky go???' now that I've got the perfect hat pattern for it), perhaps entered in a spreadsheet or pda program.
I'd also like to enter poss projects in a pda program, so I can look and see that sweater from IK fall '03 needs 11 balls of such and such yarn without having to go dig the mag out.

Resolutions?
1)Sort out stash, get rid of (swap or Ebay) the bottom 1/3rd that`s been living in the bottom of all the drawers for years and I know I`ll never use.
2)Knit up another estimated 1/3....the must-do projects that have been sitting, yarn and pattern together in a bag, just waiting their turn.
3)DO NOT replace above 2/3, no, not even if the stash now looks small and lonely and begs for company...
4) I want to learn simple home dying of roving, fleece and yarn. I think keeping this resolution will be pretty easy.
5) Try not to have more than five WIP at any one time, of which only two should be big projects.
Now I`ll probably keep to 1),2),4) & 5). But 3)? Ummmmmm...given that I have already booked a knitting weekend away in Feburary that includes visits to three of the best knitting and spinning discount and specialist suppliers in the North of England, what do you rate my chances of keeping 3) are? And then there`s Woolfest in July and family holidays in Orkney and Wales.....nope, better keep 3) for another year!

I really want to investigate spinning, learn how to and do it! I 'm trying hard to be more comfortable taking my knitting everywhere to work on it without "offending". I usually ask if I 'm going visiting and spending time with friends who don't knit if it is okay with them. Eye contact is very important so I don't take complex stuff.
Just to find more time in bits and pieces to knit!
But... I'm not giving up adding to my stash- maybe for Lent.

I want to keep my yarn stash to less than 365 balls (an arbitrary number based on the fact that I will NEVER knit 1 ball a day for a whole year).
I want to submit at least 5 designs SOMEWHERE this year.
I want to self-publish at least 2 designs.
I want to finish this lace panel I can't seem to get going on.
I want to finish a dozen projects.

I want to make some headway thru my stash and buy replacement stash.
I am dying to knit a Fair Isle sweater with something other than Philosophers Wool. (I've got yarn on order already so that's not a 2006 stash addition.)
I'm getting the itch to knit up a nice Aran, but would have to buy more yarn for that. Hey, that's ok.
I want to knit up a bunch of the sock yarn in my stash.
I want to figure out what to do with some of my leftover yarn.
I want to get those neat little needle pockets for my circulars if I can find a place other than Patternworks to order from. |

Lilypad, I just started spinning. I didnt have a clue, but got some roving, some kool-aid and dyed myself some fluff, bought just any ole spindle that was cheap from ebay to just start. IM having a blast. It's meditative, beautiful to watch and Im sure it lowers your blood pressure. It is definately something I can't believe I waited 40 years to try. I'll never not spin again I predict, its soo enjoyable.
I also really like to see how yarn comes about after knitting for so long as well.
My resolution is to continue organizing and eliminate about 30 boxes of yarns, crafts andf fabrics. I just can't have all this, it gets beyond managable at times, fun but not managable. Then I can have the guilt free pleasure of getting new stuff. |

1) Complete all projects currently on needles before starting new ones (except for holiday gift knitting - these resolutions don't go into effect until Jan. 1, right?)
2) Do not start a project without knowing what I will use it for or to whom I will give it upon completion.
3) De-stash; I have too much yarn for my very small living space.

| My resolutions are to 1) knit myself a tote for my WIP and tools, 2) have no more that one WIP at a time (I sufffer from knitting ADD), 3) buy only yarn as needed for projects, 4)knit up some items (scarfs, hat, blankets, etc) for the needy. |

I am with those that want to organize. I have my yarn in trunks right now, have to rummage through them to find what I want. My books and magazines are haphazard. The needles have an organization, I just don't use it! So either I have to resolve to actually put my needles away when I'm finished with them, or find another system that I'll use.

So ... order them from somewhere else! Or do you just not want to order online? I gave you links to 2 other sellers - and KnitPicks has it at a discount. You could probably find another dozen sellers if you google it.

COGirl, I know lots of folks who use hook/bait dividers bought in the fishing section of outdoors stores. You can write on them with permanent marker and then you'll only have the sizes you need (I have all sizes under size three, about 57 size fives, and maybe one each of size 9, 10.5, 13, and 15, so any other pre-labeled sizes are a waste to me)

COGirl -- I use the ziptop bags (sandwich sized) for my circs. I mark them with a Sharpie(R) and toss them in a Sterlite(R) box (the ones with handles on the lockable lid) with the rest of my knitting paraphernalia. I did recently purchase a plastic tackle box, which will be the new holding place for my knitting tools.
I don't make New Year's resolutions. No reason. <shrug>

I tried to do it in 2005, but instead, my stash nearly doubled in size! I really have to dod it this year. |

I've already started the organizing part of my New Year's resolution as DD is moving back home and I'm losing my junk room. I want to finish the Spirit of the Southwest Shawl that is stalled in order to complete my holiday knitting. I'm also going to learn to spin.
And stash? What stash? Don't 'cha know I'm attempting to start a new interior decorating trend. Instead of carpet, yarn. Instead of a chair, piles of yarn. Wall art? (Not yarn--knitting needles, silly.)[:00]

In the spirit of generosity and self-sacrifice to fellow knitters, I hereby volunteer to selflessly accept all stash-reductions and provide them with a loving home. Address available upon request... ::ducks and runs, giggling::
Seriously, my resolutions are:
1. Knit my mom the "Pacific Northwest" shawl
2. Knit my sister either the shawl or scarf version of "Pawprints."
3. Actually finish the one big project I have going for myself
4. Declutter the mags and books I'm not using
5. Do some charity knitting
6. Find a way to fund my stash without dipping so much into the household budget. (I can sew and bead really well - anyone have success selling custom needle cases, bags, or beaded stitch markers??? PM me, LOL!) |

1)Take positive steps toward getting out of my high stress job;
2)Take even more positive steps towards opening my own business: dream is an LYS in Southeast Kansas although I still live in Arizona;
3)Start and finish knitting a sweater (any kind) in less than a year. |
