For many years, we used to raise sheep and my mom would spin her own yarn. My mom hasn't had her wheel out for over 20 years, but we've been knitting like crazy again and she's been talking about getting her wheel out.

All I know is it's an Ashford, and it needs a belt.

So, for Christmas, I'm thinking I'd like to get her the belt. Without giving this secret away to her, where do I look to find out what model it is so I can get the right belt? Is there anything else I should look at that may need replacing after sitting idle for so long?

Well, you can make a belt out of any strong string or cord. But there is also an Ashford maintenance kit which contains a number of handy spare bits, like springs for the Scotch tension, flier hooks, oil etc etc....and belt cord.


Have a look on the Ashford site for your model, then Google around for your nearest stockist. There are also assembly guides on this site. And you`ll need to clean and oil, oil, oil! The guide will tell you where.

Thank you! A distributor is listed fairly close. I just have to figure out exactly which wheel we've got. LOL

Hehehe. She's going to love this! I can't believe the idea popped into my head.

I was reading around the Ashford site myself...very interesting, lots of info. The FAQ section might be of great use if you have any problems or glitches with your old wheel that need smoothing out.
