After the initial "I'm blown away, babe...," the curse seems to be finally kicking in on the hand-dyed, handspun, custom designed and knitted scarf. He's now in 'if I acknowledge my feelings for you, the planet will implode" mode, and I likely won't see him when I'm in Detroit next week ("uh...might be in Nashville, might be in Florida, LOADS of work...."). Men: can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.

I hear ya, sistuh! I'll never divorce my DH, but there are times I contemplate whether a jury of my peers would convict me if I were to do what I was thinking...(if they were all female, I'm certain they wouldn't!!)
Hang in there, and remember, we're here for you!

Lissa, Lissa, Lissa...you dare toy with the curse?!? Not me...ever!!
Elizabeth, you crack me up! I saw an advert for a new movie set in Olde England and the main character is standing at the door with a pig on a leash. The maid answers the door and says "My mistress says the pig can't come in, but we will take the animal"...and she takes the leash but leaves the guy standing at the door. Odd though that I can't remember the name of the movie....
Perhaps the curse is really a blessing. We get to find out what they're really made of, eh?

Geez, Lissa. And you seem so likeable. Can you get the scarf back and frog it and make you something great out of it?

Yup, Casanova! Great idea...take the gift, but leave the pig at the door.
I've said this before, but perhaps The Curse is a good thing. You meet a new man, you knit him something, and you test the reaction. If the reaction is "Wow...this is great! What size needles did you use? Where did you get the yarn? What gauge did you get? What's this stitch called?", the guy's a keeper. All others can be kicked to the curb!

To add clarification here for Lissa she wanted to invoke the curse on purpose. So the fact that he is acting like an @$$ is good. It's a long story and for Lissa to tell and not me but this is good newsfor sure. Congratulations and I say you put that personal ad you were talking about in the paper. You never know until you try.

There is a scarf curse too? Damn knitting is gifts is a minefield! If Lissa hoped to invoke the scarf then I say CONGRATS! And if not then I say the man is a RAT!
And just in case, I am giving my Mister the stink-eye for the behavior of "man"-kind.

gee- isn't there a *possibility* that the guy might actually be loaded down with work and not know his schedule?

MMario, to clarify, a few of us know a fair amount about this scarf and its recipient. I know at least Jayme and I have come by our opinions honestly. He isn't a nice guy, and he isn't nice enough to Lissa.
Unlike some of the other folks here, I'm actually quite fond of men in general and of my male friends and my husband in particular. I don't intend to punish any of the guys I know for this one bad guy's bad treatment of my friend Lissa. Though I do want to kick the scarf recipient in the teeth. Just once. And take the scarf to give to Tom, perhaps.

okey-doke. (the "ladies" (and I use the term advisedly) here at work have been doing so much guy bashing lately I'm probably just over-sensative.)

Hey, MMario, I was wondering why people would give their own men evil-eyes when said men haven't done anything. If men gave women the evil eye everytime any man was annoyed with any woman, we'd all get the evil eye because somewhere some woman is PMSing.

Lissa, when I was a kid in highschool......we used a girl named sue as a sort of 'boyfriend' test she would go after any guy that one of us liked or had started to see..... so after we all figured it out... she would be our acid test.... we would mention to her that we were seeing 'so and so"
and even bring him by her house or something.... if the guy bite..... the guy was GONNERS
if not.....we went out with him
worked very very well and she never caught on!

Y'all are a riot. Thanks for the support. Yes, Howard is a long story - 36-years long, to be exact. I won't bore you with the whole, long story (gifts of appreciation gratefully accepted), but suffice it to say that I was, indeed, purposely invoking the Curse. 36 years of loving someone who claims to love me but won't do anything about it is enough. Jayme and Lanea have been forced at knifepoint to hear the goings-on, and because they love me, they're really ticked at him. He's really a lovely, generous person - except for the way he has dealt with me over the years.
MMario, I can see why you asked the question, but trust me - this is issue-avoidance supreme. He makes his own schedule, and will move heaven and earth to do something he WANTS to do.
Y'all really made me feel better - there's nothing like real friends to highlight the ones who don't deserve my attention.

But if you are planning to invoke the curse intentionally, then a scarf is a wise way to do it. Minimum input for maximum results.

It worked for me a couple of years ago - unintentionally, of course - so it was worth a try, since I'm clearly too weak to tell him not to contact me any more.
