i am looking for a pattern (preferably free) to make for my aunt. she told me that she has arthritis in her neck and often wears a scarf around the house to keep her neck warm. i was thinking that a shawl...or something akin to that...would be nicer. any suggestions...i would love if it had a way to stay on without her having to hold it in place
WHile not free, I just finished Ene's Scarf from Scarf Style and it is quite warm.
I recently had surgery on my neck for a ruptured disc. I have a plate and screws in my neck now and I find the cold really bothers me. One project that is waiting for me to begin is a Moebius scarf. I thought that would stay in place without being a bother.
That's my suggestion also--a moebius scarf or just a tube of knitting to pull over her head and allow to bunch up around the neck or turn into a turtleneck.
Just an idea..... Somewhere I've seen a pattern for a neck warmer that simply looked like the turtleneck portion of a sweater without the sweater attached. If you have a pattern for a turtleneck sweater, take a look at it and see if you could make the neck portion only.
There is a free downloadable Knitpicks pattern for a "scarf cowl" . Can't post the link because the site seems to be having problems today. You can also browse the free patterns here:
