I am starting a KAL called "The Year of the Sweater"!! Because my goal this year is no more scarves and shawls! I am working on a complete first sweater with sleeves, collar and all and it has to be put together. It is scaring me a bit but I am excited at the same time! The KAL is for anyone who wants to also committ to moving up to working on sweaters this year. You only have to commit to making one complete top/sweater. It is a place to share advice, not to do any particular pattern.
I have never done this before and maybe only a few will join me, but that is ok! If you are a fairly new knitter, or experienced but tired of making scarves, shawls and socks even and want to start making finished garments come join me!
http://yearofthesweater.blogspot.com/
Here are the rules and requirements for joining:
1) You have a blog-sorry, it is just easier that way- 2) You must send me an email to YarnBotanika@aol.com telling me you want to join. The email should only include your name, email address and your blog address/URL 3) You commit to making one complete top/sweater in 2006-this can be any kind of top (tank, full sweater, shrug, etc) for anyone (man, woman, child, baby sized. You can knit as many as you want, but you only need to commit on the blog to making ne. 4) that you post regularly about it. including posting the pattern you are going to make, what yarn you are going to use and the techniques 5) that you help others when/if you can because there is no one experienced sweater guru here
I am also looking for help (administrators) and someone who might be good at making buttons or banners.
Gosh, I hope someone comes and knits sweaters with me this year.....be patient with me signing you up if you come along, because I have never done this. Everyone is probably doing the olympics but if you are working on a sweater or want to make one, please come join me!

Hi Lisa;
I'm going to e-mail you about this KAL. I'd like to join but I did make a sweater about 10 years ago, so I'm not sure if I qualify. I wasn't happy with the way it turned out, so after all these years I decided to give it another try. I just started one. Anyway, I'm going to send you an e-mail about it now.

Hi Pam, I wrote you back! Just to clarify, the KAL isn't necessarily for someone who has never made a sweater before. You could have made 20 sweaters or no sweaters! It is just for people who want to commit to making sweaters (at least one) in 2006. We actually could use experienced people. Even if you are already working on a sweater that you have started, you are welcome to join!!! So far, it is a nice friendly group and people seem excited about both working on their project and helping each other!!
So you are definitely welcome, I wrote you back!

Please consider joining us! We are always taking new members. We are nice group of knitters who are focusing on doing sweater knitting this year. You can knit ANY pattern as long as it is a top or sweater. The ONLY requirements for joining are that you have a blog, that you post an intro and post regularly and help others. Come take a look at

Hi Lisa, I never done a knit along and I do have a sweater in mind to work on after my pullover is finished. I do have a question for you, I do have a blog page but I can't always post becasue I'm in school and can't post until the weekend. Can I still join? Collegeknit.

Can a Flickr photo stream count as "a blog?" I have no interest in maintaining a blog at this point in my life, but I'm good about posting updated pictures and comments to my Flickr stream. And I'm in the middle of my very first sweater, if it's not too late to join your knit-along.

Just sent a request to join!
I'm currently working on one sweater and have two or three more in mind for when I finish this one. I'm on a sweater kick all of a sudden, but I'm jumping in headfirst since I'm a new knitter (been knitting less than a month).

I just sent a request to join as well. I'm casting on tomorrow (Independance Day!) for my first sweater this year and second sweater ever. This sounds like a fun KAL! Beth |

Just sent an email to join. I've been knitting a lot of sweaters lately, but I can always use some moral support!

I would LOVE to join. I have a sweater partially done for a grandson which I need some "push" to finish. However, I don't have a blog, mainly because we have no digital camera and it can take many days to get pics with a standard 35mm when you have to finish a roll of 24 or 36. And I do have another question here. Must the blog be about knitting? I have considered a general blog about homekeeping which would include "domestic" arts, such as knitting, but would also have all sorts of other things. How would that fly, AYO?
Blessings, Carla
