My 72-year-old father just told me what he'd like for Christmas from me and my family. (He's so sweet to give me a lot of notice!) He wants a V-neck cardigan with a bit of cabling on it. He'd like wool or a wool-blend, and he wants the color to be a dark tan or a light brown. I'm thinking I'd like to do it in a worsted to heavy worsted weight yarn. Any suggestions of patterns to look at? I'm willing to buy several different patterns (or print free ones from the web) to give him a decent selection to look over and choose what he likes.

This one and this one have more than "a bit" of cabling, but they're beautiful and you have plenty of time before Christmas.
