I was reading the who won't you knit for thread. I didn't post to it because I have so many people I love to knit for, more projects than I can ever get to, that I haven't ever even thought about knitting for people who might not be receptive or who my knitting might not be a good gift for.
I thought it would be nice to hear about all the lovely people who you do like to knit for and who love getting hand knit things. Who do you love to knit for?
When I give a gift I don't think about it much anymore, it's not mine then, but I do admit it's lovely to know that a gift was appreciated or is being worn.
I'm about to start a pair of socks for a man who is constantly donating his time and means to the community. He donated some of that time to help my husband and I with something and I noticed he was wearing a pair of hand knit socks! Turns out there are no knitters in his household, these were a gift someone gave him TWENTY years ago. He said he wears them often because they are warm and you could tell he was impressed that they had lasted this long.
I knit for my in-laws when they were living. The only problem is that they were so happy with what I made that they NEVER got rid of anything. Once, when I very young, I decided to see what a needlepoint rose pattern would look like if I crocheted each color instead of needle point. It did look like a rose, but was a bit rough in my opinion. My MIL loved it though. She framed it hung on the wall over their dining table. Everytime I visited this lovely woman, I would have to look at that rose over the dining table... for 25 years! It was the first thing I took down and tossed when we were clearing out the house after she died.
I realized reading threads that I am very blessed to have people who I love to knit for and who love to be knitted for. Family and friends. Now if I could just find time to knit for all of them!

I love to knit for my mom! She knits, so she appreciates the time i've put into it. I recently made her a pair of socks, and she wears them all the time!

I like this positive take on things...nice.
I love to knit for my kids. I knit their hats and mittens through their younger years...then they bought riding (snowboarding etc...) gloves, but now they seem to know a good thing! And I'm back to knitting their hats and fingerless gloves. I knit for my husband, sister, dad & dad in law when they were living...and still for my mom and mom in law. I can't think of anyone I wouldn't knit for.

my sweet husband. He SO appreciates the socks and scarves. He has no ego about 'manliness' or color of the gift. He just loves being loved through my knitting. Soppy,....sorry. But I don't give him enough credit for this. My son-guys love the gifts,... so I love the giving. Too much 'love'...I hope not. This is what we hope for, right? Gayle |

Besides myself, for my husband. He takes a serious interest in my craft, and gives suggestions, recommendations, and is involved in the whole decision making process of the sweater, or cap or whatever he's going to get. It's a lot of fun and worth it, because he also wears everything regularly.

DH absolutely adores the socks I make for him. My goal is for him to never purchase a sock at a store again!

thanks mama B. You're right. There seems to be an easy whine about the failures. I would give anything to have my mom and pop in law back! They passed in 98. They both were honest, loving and supportive (without tolerating fools). I would love to be knitting for them!! Instead I concentrate on their family, my hubby and sons. Gayle |

| I've been knitting "grandma/grandpa" baby afghans for my friends. They all seem so surprised to receive the afghan and are really appreciative. I also try to include something I have knit when I go to a baby shower. Right now at one of the elementary schools where I work we will be having three baby showers this spring. I'm knitting an "apple" hat and a pair of socks for the the baby plus giving them a nursery rhyme book. A couple of Christmases ago I knit 7 foot long afghans for my brother and nephew. They were really appreciative as well. |

Babies are always fun to knit for, mine or friend's. My little ones usually like the novelty of new knitted gifties. My husband gets socks and a sweater every year or so. I knit for myself alot and if something doesn't work that I made for myself, I offer it up to my girls to decide who it's right for.

I'll knit my boys anything they ask for, as well as my Gram. :) My Gram doesn't *ask* for anything...I just knit her what I think she'll like & get some use out of. I'm currently looking for the perfect spring shawl/wrap pattern for her. Any suggestions are welcome. ;)

My son loves anything I knit for him, even if I just give him a swatch from something I am working on. It makes me feel good. I am working on my first project for my husband. So far it is the only knit thing I have found that he would like and wear (the Linux illusion scarf). I will make nearly anything for MIL because she is always impressed by what I make. I have yet to make anything wearable for her (I've made stuffed toys and dolls for her), so I have started some fuzzy feet. She has a tiled floor and is cold easily, so they will be used a lot. My mom also loves when I make her stuff. I plan on making her a lace scarf this winter, and possibly some socks. I will NOT make socks for DH. His feet are huge (size 13) and he is very rough on socks. I will spend my sock time on myself and my son. Soon I will need to make baby stuff for my sister. I can't wait to have a baby to knit for! Too bad I won't see the baby much, since my family is in Florida. Oh, I will also make pretty much anything for my niece who lives here in Vegas. She really appreciates anything creative.
Take care! Brandy

I finish things so infrequently, that I would rather spend time knitting for someone who will appreciate the time, effort and quality yarn I put into it: me.
I also knit for my boyfriend who appreciates the few things I've knit for him so far. He's not a sweater guy, but I still wanted to make him one for Christmas. He loved it, has worn it, and occasionally says with awe "I still can't believe you made me a sweater!" It's a good feeling.
