I am currently involved in trying to get 3700 hand knitted/crocheted items by the end of September.

All items *MUST* be natural fibres only These items will be going through industrial washers and dryers so superwash wool, Handicrafter/Sugar & Cream cotton are top choices.

We are looking for face cloths, slippers, hats, mitts, scarves, any small knitted/crocheted items.

If you want more info please send me a PM, email or check:

Good luck, mokey, and count me in! I know I can sqeeze at least a face cloth into my Christmas knitting!! Who's with us on this?!

Okay, I have now officially overdone the exclamation points quotient for the day. I will quietly go and feed my cats and myself.

Mokey, I want to join in too. Are there any requirements/prohibitions about colors used? Any prefered sizes?

Thank you! You are awesome.

The main requirement is that whatever you make be natural fibres and machine wash/dry. Any and all adult sizes are graciously accepted. However, soldiers I have spoken to say that helmet liners shoudl be stocking stitch and thinner wool(sock weight)

No colour restrictions on face cloths, and none that I know of on hats, scarves, etc *BUT* to be on the safe side might be best to stick with the colours approved for the helmet liners:

(yes I know that is a US link but colours are the same)

I'll ask my contact and see if there is any official word from DND regarding colours.

I can vouch for how lousy the synthetics are! They make you sweat like crazy which makes everything worse. And nothing seems to be made for real human bodies.

Thanks, Mokey, for getting us started early enough in the year to help.

I will help contribute to the Canadian group, but do you know if there is something for the American troups too?

Mokey,
I am reading this on Sept 4th. Your initial message says you will be shipping by end of September.
I won't be able to contribute until October. Do you plan a second shipment?
Helmet Liners would be my choice of project. Would need to know exactly what colours are acceptable.

Hi Mokey,
Could you send me address for the knitted items? I constantly knit face cloths during car rides (as a passenger) or in Drs. offices and have about 20+ ready to go. Would like to try my hand at helmet liners and presume one could use pattern on the U.S. site?? I think this is a great project. We need to let our troops know that we are thinking of them.
