I have a pattern and would like to knit a gingerbread man for my mom's kitchen - anyone know of a worset weight or sport weight yarn that would be a good color?

I don't know exactly which yarn would work, but I am intrigued by the knitted gingerbread guy. Is it flat? Stuffed? Hot pad-esque? Details! I need details!

I tried to find the link to it but I can't seem to - it's stuffed knit in a square and then sewn into shape with the "decorations" I'll keep looking for the link

I made them one Christmas using that super simple teddy bear pattern that is widely available on the internet. To make a teddy bear, you stitch across the corners turning them into ears. To make a gingerbread man you do the same thing but then turn it inside out so you end up with a rounded head. It is the trimmings that mark it as a gingerbread man. Here is a link to the pattern which is in baby yarn and very small. I made them in worsted yarn for about 10 - 12 inches in size and then made one by doubling the number of stitches and rows and got a much larger one. I used a warm brown yarn and stitched across the hands and legs with white and embroidered white buttons and facial features.

Thanks fmarrs for the pattern and KellyKnits for the good idea. These will go nicely with my baby gift knits I am making. "My wrists are sore from knitting my first sweater" Crystal

I have seen that teddy bear pattern, but never thought of turning it into a cookie!

cottage creations has a pattern for a seamless gingerbread man, which comes with a little book for children. i think they may have discontinued the patterns but you might be able to find it floating around online. i was lucky enough to snag one at a lys, but i'm yet to make it. maybe this christmas!
Knit it, Violet! |

Mokey, how could you bear to deliberately throw a piece of knitting into the fireplace?! It's a great idea, though. You're a stronger woman than I.

Cute idea, but I think I'll stick with my plan of baking large gingerbread boys/girls and knitting little scarves to wrap around their necks!!!
Some will be ornaments hung with ribbon, some will be given as gifts (to eat...yum!). That way I get to smell their yumminess...
