I'm knitting the asymmetric rib sweater in the second Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk book. The pattern gives instructions for Row1 & Row2 until you reach 77 stitches before changing to the US 8 circs. At this point the longest length on the left side is approximately 4". The directions then explain shaping the armhole, and the next section is instructions for all sizes which reads:

Work left shoulder and neck as follows: Cont Straight in patt as set by 1st & 2nd rows, until work measures 31cm or 12 1/4 inches from **, ending with a p row.

My question is where are the instructions for the length of the front piece before shaping the armholes? Is it the 31 cm measurement? Any advice in following these types of patterns will be appreciated.
