I know there is not much time but the need is great. Afghans for Afghans needs 900 wool vests and sweaters by November 3. http://www.afghansforafghans.org/900kids.html http://www.afghansforafghans.org/blanket.html The second link gives the details along with a lot of links to patterns available online. A vest can be knitted in a week (or less, if you have lots of time LOL) Stash yarn is perfect - I am using some turquoise wool I bought online thinking it was "sky blue" (that's what it was labeled -- live and learn -- good thing it was cheap!) If you go to my online photos, you can see the pics of what I've knitted along with links to the patterns. http://www.flickr.com/photos/83951338@N00/
I forgot about the Canadian deadline being sooner that the US deadline of November 3rd. I would think they'd accept a store made wool vest -- they only accept wool or mostly wool blends due to the extreme cold climate.
