I am from Long Island, New York and love to knit. I have been knitting for about 20 years on and off (seriously for about 4 yrs.). I taught myself how to knit from a book when I was about 15 years old. I remember having a hard time casting on. I had to put it down in frustration then I picked it up and got it. I did the same thing with the purl stitch. Well here I am some years later and addicted to all the fibers out there. I patted myself on the back this last summer when I finished my first sleevless sweater. I don't think I am alone when I say this: It is dangerous for me to go into any yarn stores. My stash is getting bigger. I have my stash cataloged with the patterns (project) I want to use it for on the computer so I don't forget. There just is never enough time for me in the day to get a good knit-in done.
Also, none of my friends share the hobby and it is very hard to find others to knit with. I just bought a house on the eastern end of Long Island and now it is harder.
Well, enough babbling. I am glad to be here.
:-)

Hello Ms. V -- glad you're here and welcome! Yep, sounds like you're seriously hooked -- as are we all. You are also in the right place for advice, encouragement, ideas, stories, humour and just plain fun.
Enjoy,

Kali Mera sas, Welcome to the forums. Oh we are a diverse bunch. Stashing can be a problem and most of us have issues with it. Glad to have you in the group. All your friends here enjoy your passion and look forward to reading more of you.

Welcome to the forum Ms V. I'm Vicky. I taught myself to knit also but just this year.....20 years of knitting you have alot of experience to share...I'm a sponge fill me w/ your knitting knowledge!!!
You haven't found any knitter's on Long Island? I would think there would be a lot of knitters there....do they have a yarn shop? If you don't find any....you have an international group of knitters here on the boards just chomping at the bit to get to know you and knit w/ you on-line!
Take care and I hope to hear a lot of knitting from you!

Another warm welcome-- as everyone said, you should ultimately find knitters in Long Island! :)
Enjoy all the conversation here :)

Eleanor: I used to live in Massapequa Park! I had an apartment on Michigan Avenue. In April I bought a house in Ridge which is just about 10 miles west of Riverhead. I am on a half-acre and love it.

Ms V: You are far away! I've been out to Riverhead. What a coincidence that you used to live a Michigan Ave., that's right near me. What made you move out to Ridge, besides having 1/2 acre of land? Oh well, we could have been neighbors. Well I guess we'll just have to correspond through the forum and if you're ever out this way be sure to look me up, okay?
