I'm past my crush on him, but criminy, I'd pay for classes I don't need if only to wait and see if he lunges at people who drop stitches, and attacks people knitting the "wrong" way(of which there are many) with telephones. Okies, I'm just being silly.
But he is pretty macho, so maybe that's a way of affirming that knitting isn't a girl's hobby at all :D

It is him, or his doppelganger. I figure after Gladiator and Cinderella Man he's not going to fool anyone into thinking he's fey, so at least in that pic(not sure but I think it's photoshopped), he's proving that tough guys knit too ;).

Actually, he doesn't even look like he is knitting, at least not in anyway I've seen b4. Still it's nicer to look at than some of the photos of celebrities with giant knitting needles and cheese-eating grins on their faces over some ugly looking stuff. Like, "Lookit! I can knit!", but I look at it and think to myslef, a bird's nest looks better. Whoever the stunt-knitter was knows how to knit. Haha, stunt-knitter, I'll take that gig, does it pay well?

That couldn't be the instructor at Imagiknits. The two times I've been in the shop, it was definitely NOT MALE FRIENDLY! The first time I recieved no attention from the 2 or three staff memebers, who were not helping other customers, but were either moving stock or doing nothing behind the counter. As usual when yarn shopping, I was wearing a sweater I had made, as that often breaks the ice at shops I've never been in before. One customer commented on it and I did have a nice chat with her, and she was more helpful than the staff. A few of the other customers gave me looks like I was a flasher at a woman's self defense class! I finally left without purchasing anything.
The next visit was just as unpleasant, though I did finally get to speak to a staff member. I asked about finding mens patterns, and got a finger point and "Over there, they're all mixed in together.". I looked through the clutter and actually found what I wanted, but found that the prices were higher than on the internet. ever again.
I also had a bad experience at Atelier yarns. They are near the Kaiser hospital where I had an early appointment. I was finished in time to be waiting for the shop to open. The poor clerk seemed sooo annoyed as I looked through the window while she talked on the phone. She finally put the phone on the counter and opened the dooor a few miutes later when it was obvious I wouldn't be leaving (almost 10 minutes after opening time). First I looked at a few of the displays while she went back the phone. I could feel her eyes drilling into my back and after a while I heard her semi-whisper "I can't talk now, there's someone I need to watch." Not "I have a customer" or "Need to help". "Someone I need to watch". She finally came over and frostily asked if she could help me. I asked about a certain issue of a magazine and she pointed to the display rack then went behind the counter, just a few feet from the rack. I found the issue I wanted to look at and tried to chat about mens pattterns being scarce while leafing through the mag. All I got was "Are you going to buy that?" I simply put the magazine down and left. Never again.
I have been treated more courteously and had better conversations about crochet and knitting buying yarn at the Goodwill or corner drugstore than at either of these shops. Thank goodness the other shops in SF that I've been to are friendlier to male customers. |
