Thanks, kknitter!
I LOVE the fingerless mittens, what pattern did you use for them? The Malabrigo is gorgeous, I need to find a store where I can get some of that!

Nice Blog! Beautiful scarf too.
I am happy for you that you found something to help deal with your loss. I lost my Dad 2 years ago this January, about 1 1/2 hours before his birthday. It has been difficult for me to cope with. I did play a performance of Copland's Quiet City (English horn and trumpet solo with orchestra. I played the English horn) with the symphony 3 weeks after his death and found it very cathartic. Backstage, the trumpeter, conductor and I put our arms around each other and dedicated the performance to Dad.
Anyway - welcome! This is a nice place.
Ceci

Hello! I visited your blog! I love the scarf--I've been wanting to make one, too, but I still have to find the right yarn for it.
I have found knitting to be good therapy, too. I started in 1998, after my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, and I have never stopped.

Lain - my sister has called me Bee since we were babies (not sure why!) and DH calls me Honey so it's a combo of my two favorite people's nicknames for me!
Ceci - I'm sorry for your loss, how wonderful that you can heal through your music as well.
Gina - thanks!

LesleyKnits, I don't really use a pattern for the fingerless mitts. I just figure of straight stitch gauge and cast on enough for approximately 8" . Since I do them in rib, there is a lot of room for "error" I knit in the round until they are long enough 3-5" depending on how long I want them. Then I knit back and forth about 6 to 8 rows until there is a big enough slit for the thumb. Connect back into round and knit until they reach about mid finger. I've done either k2,p2 rib or k2,p1 rib.
Last year I did ones with a cable running up the back of them, shorter, and a thumb. But I think I like these even better.

Thanks so much for the comments, I'm enjoying blogging so much already!
Kknitter, I saw where you posted directions for the mittens, I'm definitely going to give them a try. I can't stand the loss of dexterity from wearing gloves or mittens but living where I live they're kinda necessary!
