I HAVE BROKEN MY LEFT ARM ( NOT DOMINATE). IT REALLY DOES SEEM LIKE A MINOR, OKAY MAJOR PAIN IN THE ..... I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY IDEAS FOR WHAT I CAN DO FOR THE NEXT 6 WEEKS. I KNIT EVERDAY SO YOU CAN SEE THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM.
How do you knit? I knit continentally most of the time but can also use the American/English method. You can knit with just one hand, all you need is some means to stabalize the needle in your other/left hand. Try putting rubber bands or an elastic band around your left wrist and sticking the needle under it. If the problem is your yarn catching on the cast, pull a nylon stocking over the cast and the yarn won't stick to it. If you can still use your fingers, it shouldn't cause much difficulty. If you usually knit continentally, this is the perfect time to learn how to control your yarn tension by the way you wrap your yarn through your fingers instead of holding it between your fingers.
Get yourself something simple like a washcloth or garter stitch scarf and practice. You may surprise yourself, but your stitches might not be as even when you start. I knit all the time with braces on my hands and wrists.
