I'm trying to create "Wine" color. The yarn is "Stars by Adriafil".

I don't know what that would be in icing and koolaid custom mixed colors though. What's the difference between maroon and burgundy? They look exactly the same to me no matter what site I look at, whether it's a wedding site showing color ideas, or a HTML color chart, or even one of those cake-design sites. It all looks the same as my yarn, maybe not quite as dark but pretty close. The cake icing sites give two very different color mixes for the two. Makes it sound like the end result is about as different as yellow and purple is.
Would mixing some red and tiny bit of purple together give me something that would be somewhat close to this yarn?
It'll all be felted down in the end so I guess it just needs to be sort of close rather than totally exact. Under the white Stars I have, I'm using aran colored yarn. :)

Are you trying to dye the "stars" or the aran ? or both?
because based on the content of the "stars" it won't dye.

My own opinion? if you have a good purple - I would add red to it until getting the colour I wanted -

Thank you :) I'll give it a shot. I figure the worst that happens is I'll have yarn for making felted flowers if I mix it wrong hehe

I'd buy extra yarn and dye short lengths, making very careful notes about what mixture I used. And grape kool-aid does not give a true purple, but more of a dark red-purple, if that helps.

I got a faded washed out color, with Wiltons. It's hard to do custom mixes since I'm color blind to some colors *laughs*
My husband looked at it and asked me what color I was going for, so I showed him the Stars yarn and he looked at me funny haha. Said I wasn't really even close haha
Instead, this afternoon I broke out the rest of my Sapphire and Red (I forget if it has any special name, might be Fire Engine?) of Jacquard Acid. The paper towel dip and test yarn ends came out just right. It's about done now :)
Hopefully it'll be right. I've taken photos as I go, and I'll post them up on the blog later tonight probably. If anything, at least it's dark enough that I can use it for the purse :)

I've gotten a decent mauve mixing 1 kool aid cherry and 2 grape packets, but to get wine I would imagine you would need to use a ton of packets.
