I want to make an afghan of heirloom quality for my family. In a log cabin or mix up square style with different color yarns. I don't mind dry cleaning it. I want it comfortable. What should I use? I most likely will use scrap yarn over time but I need a plan. Should I use 100% wool merino? Wool /acrylic? Can I mix some with acrylic and some 100% wool- Alpaca? I don't want it to be too itchy. Suggestions needed.
My two cents: If you don't mind handwashing/dry cleaning a big item and if your family is not sensitive, go for natural fibers. Otherwise, you might want to try something like Encore. Personally, I have used Beaverslide for afghans. The 100% wool is soft and comes in lots of colors.
Take care,
Tanya
