Some friends of mine just started this site:
http://www.bountynetwork.com
It's like localized classified ads: post what you're looking for, or post what you're looking to sell. Because it uses Google's map system, you can find local services in any area of the country.
It would be great for finding that one ball of a particular dye lot, or for forming a new knitting group, or for offering your teaching services... and since it's free, you have nothing to lose, and no one's personal information will ever be sold. (The site's revenue, if there is any, will come from advertising.)
As a designer, I plan to use the site to find models and printing services for my patterns. I'm sure all you creative knitters can find gobs of uses for it. Have fun with it!

Well, that's really neat. It should be interesting to see how it develops with more users--people here in San Diego are just barely getting the hang of craigslist. I'll definitely bookmark it and pass it on.
