Last night I eyeballed 4 oz (total) of South Af fine white, angora fur & mulberry silk into a blend on my petite drum carder. The silk was in slivers so it gave me a little trouble blending the first time (kept getting stuck on the smaller drum). I've only blended the whole lot twice. The resulting blend is a dream!! The silk is still a little streaky, so I have to blend the lot maybe 1 or 2 more times... It's all white & I can't make up my mind whether to dye it or not. This is by far the best blend I've ever produced. Can't wait to spin it! Any advice on ratios, twist etc?

Drooool....
No recomendations, although I have heard that slightly felting angora after spinning can be a good idea, just passing on a rumor no experience personally (unfortunately).

Oddly enough, the blend feels cool to the touch. I'm sure it's going to be warm eventually thanks to the wool & angora... it's probably the silk (?) It was warmer than usual last night so i dont think it was the AC.

Spin fine yarn - you'll end up with quite a halo from the angora. That particular blend needs quite a bit of twist, so use a small whorl and enjoy the spinning! You'll get much more yardage that you think possible from that small amount of weight. You may want to ply, but if you don't it will probably work just fine - use garter stitch on large needles and you'll have a treasure!

That sounds so lovely! ...And silk can actually be every bit as warm as wool. It's just a different sort of warm, if that makes any sense...

Lanthir, i was spinning this last night. it has both the delicate sheen of silk & the fuzz of angora bunny - best of both! it's just lovely. It took ages to spin since i'm going to spin 2 very fine threads & ply them together from 2 oz & then the same with slightly thicker threads from about 3 oz. My wrist is still hurting from the fine spinning.

Lissa, it was heaven to spin! I ended up slightly pilling a few rolags but that may have been due to overblending. OR it may have been due to my drum carder...
