| I am looking for a kniited pattern for ballet leg warmers. My daughter wants me to make her some. She says the ones she has seen in ballet class are over the knee with an open toe and goes over the foot. Any help would be welcomed! |

A classic Ballet leg warmer is simply a knitted tube, with a ribbed top of about 3-4 inches , and a corresponding rib at the bottom.
It needs to fit snuggly on the thigh so as not to droop while at the barre or doing practice. You could do decreases down the calf so the whole thing fits smoothly.
In ballet, leg warmers should fit smoothly down the leg and not bunch up around the ankles as they are sometimes shown.
Hope this helps, KL |

My old ones had stirrups - to keep my arches from cramping at the barre. I usually pulled the stirrups up around my ankles after barre so as not to go sliding/sprawling all over the floor.

| I just made my daughter some leg warmers, there are several free patterns on the internet, she is a dancer in NY and she likes the tube-style ones, I used cascade mixed with a mohair to make it soft, c/o 40 to 46, you can do a rib pattern all the way or I did the rib pattern for about 3 inches and then used stockinette stitch to above the knee and finished up with a K1 P1 rib for about 4-5 inches, she has some that go all way up her thigh as well but I just did these above the knee, I also used a 12" circular instead of DPN |

I would recommend the ones that go all the way up the thigh-almost to your butt.
In my experience, the over the knee ones had a tendency to slip; and you wind up tugging at them all the time. JMO, KL |

I find thigh-highs get too hot and scratchy when doing yoga, so I've gone more towads a pair that's shorter, snug on the calf and then again at the ankle to keep it from slipping over my heel with a slightly airy bit inbetween. Does that make sense?

I made the ones in Last Minute Knitted gifts for my daughter and she loves them, my daughter called y-day and said she did her good deed for the day; she was on the subway and a young boy had a nose bleed and no one had anything so she went in her dance bag and gave him her leg warmers, he was so appreciative but she told him she was so sorry b/cause she knew they had to smell horrible - whew ! her feet are so bad after being in pointe shoes, by the way, if anyone knows of a good (reasonably priced) studio apartment in Manhattan, she is looking, her current lease is up the end of June and she is wanting to move in from Brooklyn - have a good w-end
