Hi KR Forum friends!

I was hoping you could help tell me what to call this style of hat?

Here is a photo I found (Kangol website its called the 504 hat):

I've heard it called both a 'flat cap' and also a 'driving' cap?

Haven't much luck finding a pattern for it either...let me know if there is one out there....somewhere...somehow

I'd call it a driving cap, and so would Ann Norling.

I've seen it called a Jeff Cap, and a quick search in google found it also called a Newsboy Cap or Gatsby Cap.

I love that cap. DH wears it well. For us, it's a driving cap. A newsboy cap is more slouchy:

I like that type of cap. I would call it a golf cap or flat cap.

The difference between a flat cap and a newsboy cap is in the blocking. A newsboy cap is left like a beret with a brim. A flat cap has the beret pulled forward until it is straight in the back and it covers the brim.

Thanks everyone for all your help with the name of the hat..and for the suggestions on patterns!

I did some searching and I think I will have to de-contruct one of these hats at home and create my own pattern for it.

I'm not seeing a hat that LOOKS like the photo...more like a newsboy cap flattened or tied to the brim?

I'm a bit obsessive about the shaping...but I want that classic look to the hat and shaping...perhaps making it felted?

I was thinking the Ann Norling Driving Cap would look a lot like the one in the picture if you tacked the front to the brim.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that I have a pattern for this type of hat for sale on Ebay right now. I'm a better knitter than a salesperson..LOL.
