I want to knit my brother a hat- he just started college this year! Any ideas for a pattern that would be appropriate that he might actually like?

My daughter made this one http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/PATTtychus.html for her brother for Christmas last year. He is 18 and really likes it. If your brother is gung ho for his school you could do it in school colors. My daughter said the short rowing was easy, but changed the pattern at the end... she didn't bind off and then sew it together - instead she knitted it together.
