I have recently made and felted the kabled needle case pattern from berroco http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/kable/kable.html The problem is that when it felted the sides are not perfectly straight. I attempted to straighten them when it was drying, but if I pulled too much on it they began to ruffle up. When you look at it the sides "bow" in, and it does not roll up nice and pretty. Can I really just cut it to make it nice and square? Will the sides unravel? I really like the looks of it so far other than those darn sides. I used dark purple for the back and a lime green cable (not attached yet)... Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I was just looking for felting instructions (about to felt my first ever item), and on the Michael's site it said that a felted item is like a blanket and you can cut it and it will not unravel (they were suggesting cutting slits in something to weave ribbon through)...so, apparently it is ok to cut. They were also talking about poking holes in the item (it was a bag) to attach the handles.

Yep, go ahead and cut. But have some really strong and sharp scissors, because it will feel like you're cutting an army blanket!

You can cut anything felted just like a piece of fabric.
Please let us know how it turns out though. I am almost finished with the Berroco needle holder myself and because the pattern addresses the possibility of it ruffling I'm a little nervous about felting it. Just courious, did you gather sides like it suggest before you felted it? |

Thanks everyone...I think I will wack away tonight while I watch Desperate housewives...Knitterbug. I did gather up the sides like suggested, and I still had the problem with them...Hopefully this will help. Let me know how yours turns out...

Awesome, I came in here to ask the very same thing. I'm planning on making some slippers for my grandma for Christmas. I always buy her slippers, and I was thinking about getting some soles and sewing on a felted bit. Never felted before so I didn't really know how to get it even. Thanks!

| I cut a felted tote pocket recently because of advice given here, and it worked fine! Just cut carefully - you don't want to cut off too much. I almost cut too much of my pocket. |

I have been looking for something like this needle case.....the felting bug has bitten me. I just finished a needle cozy that I found in the second treasury of magical knitting by Cat Bordhi. I now have the wallet from the book on my needles.

That's one of the reasons felting is so cool. If it doesn't come out the way you expected, you can just chop at it until you like it.
